Question about Video screens in the Superdome...

Does the Dome still have those relatively small video screens at the top of each endzone?
I was looking at an old photo of the Dome from the LSU/OU Sugar Bowl in 2003 and saw how small those things were compared to the screens in many stadiums today.
I remember that the Dome used to have that hexagonal structure hanging over midfield, and it had small screens that were getting its video from freaking projectors...anyone remember that?
Anyhow, I got to thinking: could the Dome's roof support a screen similar in design to the one that is at the Cowboy's new stadium?
Does anyone know how much that screen costs that Jerry Jones had installed...would love to see the Dome step it up in that department...

I'm assuming you mean smaller but the same type of layout with a double sided screen with 2 smaller screens facing the endzone? I don't think the dome could support something that heavy. I believe I remember seeing the Cowboys video board was attached to those arches.

I do remember that
Little bit of trivia, the rule the NFL has about screens hanging over the field, the one Dallas followed but wasn't good enough apparently, was based on that old screen in the Dome.
We had it to low, and had to raise it, and the NFL set the minimum at what the Dome had.
As for could the Saints do like Dallas? I wish they would or at least give us some bigger ones in the dome, but I don't see the franchise making that type of investment anytime soon

The ones in the dome were replaced after Katrina with HD screens. They are crappy though and not nearly as clear as most HD screens now. They are the same size as the old ones. I'd like to see larger screens go up.

I'm no engineer but you can easily see the 300' arch design in Dallas made to support the screen. The dome roof is the basic self supporting only design. Geeks please chime in.
The screens in the dome are upgraded but still on the smaller side. I've read it is more of a space issue with seating as to why it's limited.

The screens in the Cowboys stadium are ridiculously large and are a distraction IMHO. The Superdome could use a couple of larger widescreens in the corners of the endzone, but no need for wasting money trying to keep up with the Jerry Jones.

The dome's screens in the endzone are expandable, meaning you can add an equal sized screen on either side of the ones currently up there.
For example, look at the ads on both sides of the screens up there right now... just replace those ads with video screens and VIOLA! You now have a super duper wide screen.
It will likely happen by the time the Super Bowl rolls in... just one of many upgrades to come.

I am and yeah it would definitely be a design problem since the Dome roof is actually supported by a "tension ring" around the perimeter of it that places the roof itself in compression; anyway, think would be really awesome if could replace the "gondola" with the same design weight as original. I'm sure the new HD sreens would weigh a fraction of the original, and then remove the endzone upper panels replace with glass with outside view that would simulate outdoor stadium view but with a roof!

You would think that eventually these wide screen will become very light...and that one could be supported...I would imagine what they had up there a long time ago wasn't exactly light...
