Star Rankings are BS

And that might be the understatement of the year.
When you watch the AAA game, I have a real hard time seeing where the experts pull their ratings from. I look at a kid like Prater against a good db, and there was little separation, and on the few chances he got to make a play - he did not. Sure it is one game against big time players... but shouldn't a true 5 star dude look extraordinary in some way?
Then you look at a kid like S. Ware - and wow. That kid is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Even though he he seems to be a better RB than Lattimore - the stars and rankings are not in alignment on that. Maybe playing QB in Highschool hurt SW's rankings... but the dude reminds me of Emmitt freaking Smith. He does not have the high top end speed that some no-nothings fall in love with (Ask Al Davis how that fast first rounder is working out for him...) But I am convinced that SW is the best running back in this class... Even over that kid from Temple that all y'all have such wood over.
Last, how can a kid like that Marcoux not be higher than a 1 star???? He looked to be the best of all the QBs at the AAA game by a long shot. But what do I know, I have no recruiting site, and no mythical stars to hand out.
This is why teams like Utah and Boise State can compete... and even dominate a team like Alabama. Sure the coaches and scheme are good - but those 2 star players can be every bit as good as a 5 star guy with the right development and want.

It's a business. That's all.

Agreed, the stars are great for off season fun but more often than not they aren't accurate. Brandon Lafell was a 3 star. Its all about getting the right kid and putting him in a position to succeed.

Yes, stars don't mean much but a majority of the 5 stars are studs. Just look at some of teh past 5 stars on rivals. Kids like Tebow and Harvin were 5 stars. They're fun, but they can also mean something. However, talent evaluation by coaching staffs is more important.

For every three star there is that has had a good career there are three 5* that have also. Recruiting rankings are correlated to winning championships. Look at the top 10 and tell me who's in it. That's all you need to know.

Daniel Porter is a prime example of how inefficient those stars are.

ware was the best rb at that game, but dyer is the best rb in the class

Pratter was beating those DB's up alllllllll week long. So he had a bad game. The reporters said he wasn't all there with the news of pete carroll. He was supposed to enroll on Monday. Might have had other more important things on his mind.

Some coaching staffs don't get the fullest out of their 5 star talent. Good thing LSU doesn't have that problem.

I think people put too much stock into star rankings but damn, if I were a coach I would love to have Prater split wide.

There getting more accurate with the rankings. You can't match every kid correctly but looking at the 1st round draft picks you're seeing more 4 and 5 stars.

Ask Boise, Utah, TCU and other mid level teams if stars mean anything....coach'em up!

TCU got a few four star kids in this years recruiting class. Damn it's 21-0 ravens...arse beating

yeah does TCU and UTAH have the schedule that LSU, FLORIDA, USC and BAMA play every week?
NO....please get off of TCU's nuts...
They have to play a school like that 1 time a year.. in a BOWL game.. 1 game is much easier to go in their favor then an entire schedule..
Some guys may not get the stars they deserve because they may already want to go to a school like LSU when they are in 10th grade..
they aren't going to go to as many camps and show their skills.. they may not get much tape out there and let rivals and scout hand out stars..
but they showed a list yesterday of some of the army all stars and you can't argue with that stuff..
DeSean Jackson, TIm Tebow, Adrian Peterson, Terrell Pryor, Ted Ginn Jr.. Most of the guys that get these higher ratings are legit...
but not everyone will be evaluated properly, and it's much easier IMO to have someone come out of no where and steal the show.. like thie MORCEAUX kid,, i mean the kid did play good in the game. . in the 4th quarter.. but all of yall are crowning this kid the next peyton manning..
he did go off but was doing some things that was just wrong, ala throwing off his back foot, throwing across his body... forcing a ball that should have been picked off..
but i will agree he did a good job while playing but don't crown this kid the next BIG Ben after a quarter of play.. PLEASE?

Yeah, it would be horrible to have 15 five star recruits in our class.

Prater dominated the entire week of practice.
Like the NFL Senior Bowl, the practices are what are actually important here. The game itself means very little. You are trying to get a bunch of random kids to play an efficient game with very little practice time. Notice how the kicking game was horrendous in both the UA and AA game? Multiple kicks and extra point attempts blocked.

that and the mental make-up of a kid is very important too b/c for them to contribute early they not only have to be physically ready but also understand what they are doing on the field
