Consider this one piece of data. Jon Wilner, sportswriter and AP voter for the San Jose Mercury News (my newspaper here in Silicon Valley) submitted his final AP ballot yesterday with LSU at #23. Within the SEC AL, FL, and Ole Miss were ranked higher.

He also wrote in his daily column his starting ballot for next season, with numbers 1-25. From the SEC, AL is #1, AR is #12, FL is #15, TN is #18, and USC is #21. LSU was not in his 2010 Top 25. He has five SEC teams ranked, but that doesn't include LSU.

Yes, he is one voter, but he has been a friendly one until now. I guess he doesn't have a pair of positiger glasses to view the world with. Not a good omen.

well, LSU has to start winning games again.

You have to earn respect! LSU is starting to lose it, in terms of offensive performance.

People know LSU is talented, but we are slipping on the field 2 years in a row.

Opinions are opinions.. No way should be outside of the top 25.

We should open around 10-12

WOW! THE jon wilner? the San Jose Mecury News? i guess i have no choice now but to believe it. my opinions are of no value since they conflict with THE jon wilner.

i am in my right mind (according to others) and i believe that miles will turn us around. yes, we went down after our last NC, but i think we will go back up. with an experienced qb and with an improved OL and with the quality of our younger players i think we will be chalenging for the west title and the sec title soon. sorry. i know many want us to fail but i don't. sports programs have their ups and downs. that's just the way it is.

And Herbstreet gets everything right?! You base LSU's slide on one west coast writer from San Jose? A California writer voting USC in front of LSU, that's a surprise.
When the SC has to give up trophies and the 03 AP trophy ends up in Baton Rouge, what then.

the poster is not basing his whole opinion based on one sportswriter's opinion. he is presenting it as further evidence of what we already know.

i hope that miles can turn it next year. i know the talent is there.

one of the huge glaring problems, as evidently seen by many posters on this board, some of whom still love miles as coach, know that he favors his upperclassmen whether or not they are the best players. this is a terrible problem, because it means we are not using our talent.

if miles doesn't turn it around by next year, i think even the most positigers will be admitting he is another dinardo.

LSU lost 3 close games to 3 top 10 teams(#1,#3,#8). While it does appear that LSU is headed in the wrong direction, keeping them out of the top 15 is stupid at best.

Wilner has an history of erratic voting and being less than generous to LSU in particular. Still your intended point is something I agree with.

And I think we all know the age old saying. As the San Jose Mercury News goes so goes the nation.

If we have lost Wilner we've lost the country.

LSU was rated by several outside the top 15 last year as well, and was either parked or in the Top 10 almost all year. Had they beaten Penn State, we would have finished in the top 10.

it's not evidence though...it's like me saying that Global Warming is a farce, is further evidence that it's a farce.

frankly I think the program is in danger of becoming stagnant, but I don't think it is going downhill. The OP is just another chicken little with catastrophe syndrome.

It's prostate...NOT prostrate! Prostrate is a position in which one can be found (face down)...the prostate is a gland that can be palpated through the rectal orifice.

This ends todays definition and anatomy lesson!
