I think when 9-4 could have easily been 4-9, not a bad record but look how we played in every game basically except Auburn.

When none of your nine wins came against teams
that finished in the top 25.

When you were forced to eke out wins against Washington, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St, and Louisiana Lafayette.

When your offense is ranked lower than Vanderbilt's.

It's not really the record that is the disaster. It's the poor coaching, lack of player development, lack of discipline, lack of a productive offensive scheme(100 something in the nation) and lack of clock management. When 9-4 could have easily been 11-2 simply due to poor clock management by the coaching staff, then we have a disaster

I'm glad somebody is conceding that...

I'll admit the offense needs to be completely reworked (and I must confess that I am not entirely enamoured of Chavis' style of defense, but it did produce well enough - had we just a little more offense in three of the games, and not much more than a little against UF...)

We needed a little more than better clock management, but the lack of it didn't help.

Going back to, and including the 1930 season, LSU has lost 4 or more games 38 times (by my count). We've only won 9 or more games 24 times. LES has 4 of the 24 and only 2 of the 38. It's a lot of little things and the talent is still clearly on the field.

startshepard has it right on. We will be looking at 8-4 to 9-4 for a long time. The bar has been raised starting back when coach Hallman was replaced. We will and not accept 9-4 . 9-4 is a disaster when you have talent to be better and you don't improve.

4 or more losses 38 times in 80 seasons...

9 wins only 24 times in the same length of time...

That's a tall order, fellas.

Ace, You are right tall order. However that is the state of college football. My first game in person was 1963. I have four tickets which I have been getting since 1970's. I seen the good the bad and the ugly. The 9-4 this year was ugly. I will be happy with 9-4 if it ain't ugly. We can do better than what we have seen this year. Talent is there the staff needs to coach it up and use the best players. Coach Miles needs to step it up.

Looking at just the record is a rather simplistic and shallow way of evaluating the team's performance.

But let's assume looking at only the record is sufficient. 9-4 is just great if all you aspire to for your team is a second tier status. Your 9-4 team isn't going to be playing in BCS bowls, isn't going to be in the SECCG, and isn't going to be in the BCSCG. Your 9-4 team is going to be lorded over by the likes of Alabama, UF, and Ole Miss, as well as get no respect out of conference.

Quite frankly all the folks who post that 10-3 and 9-4 are good enough are the real negatigers, people who are satisfied with mediocrity.
As an LSU graduate, I have a bit more pride in my school and its sports teams than that. Excellence is something to be strived for all the time.

One thing Nick Saban understands very well, much better than Les does, is the continual drive to be the best, focusing on all of the details, and building a team, both within the players and the coaching staff. Les is sloppy and lets it all hang out. He is full of want (or something else).

We aren't going to get Nick back, but we should go look for coaches who have the same passion for excellence, continual improvement, and team-building capability.

But hey, if mediocrity is your gig, go right ahead and be happy with 9-4, 8-5, and 10-3. Just realize you are a true negatiger, setting your sights below what LSU can achieve.

9-4 isn't a disaster, but its how they got there is the disturbing part.

When LSU started winning 11 games a season and winning titles and then we went 8-5, 9-4, and Saban wins 26 out of 28 games in the same time period

Its not the record. Its watching a game knowing you are probably going to lose. Its like watching a train rolling on a shitty track, you know its going to wreck. Even watching the texas bama game I felt texas still had a chance.....there is no way in hell we would have. watching us do the same exact thing on offense every fricking week is hard. Miles and crowton will frick up the stream of talent saban started and I don't know if it is possible to recover. Back to the doldrums if that stream gets interupted.

Your coach, Miles pulls down nearly $4 million each year.

9-4, 8-5 with that kind of money isn't acceptable.

Looking like crap is NOT acceptable.

NOT DOING ANYTHING (CROWTON ) TO FIX THE MATTER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

JJ hadn't had a full season till the last how many games. What was Colt McCoy's record the first year he started.1st, second, and 3rd string running backs got hurt. How many programs survive that? Its great to have expectations but this is not EA sports. You have to reload. Lee would have been a second year starter. He had to be relieved becaus he forsed passes to a tue of a record breaking number of pick sixes. Every lost this year came down to the wire.

Let me state this simply and clearly:

1. The players on our team are not being developed in a manner that lends to victory.

2. As that trend continues, those games that have "come down to the wire" over the last few years will continue to result in more losses than wins.

3. Remember this: We used to win those "close" games. Now we are losing them. And as long as the mediocrity is continued to be accepted we will start losing more of them to teams we shouldn't (Miss State, La. Tech, Washington.)

What is Miles record since he has been in Baton Rouge? Ah Huh!

The answer to my question is the Trend, hard fact. Keep your money in your pocket cause you loose it.

Law of averages says it will turn around.

Any knowlegable coach will tell you " Coaches coach but players win championships!"
We are reloading.
Even with that you need a little luck. Would you fire Mack Brown now? I wouldn't!
How many top classes did Saban have at Alabama and the cupboard was not bare.
Even if another crystal lands in br in the next couple of years under Miles, smart money says you'll complain again!!

It's not a disaster, but it is certainly a problem for a $3.8 mil a year coach to go 8-5 and 9-4 in back-to-back years.

You make top dollar, you have top expectations.

1. What has been Miles record and how has the product looked without Saban's players, who were developed by Saban coaches like Jimbo.

2. Mack Brown doesn't stick with coaches out of loyalty when an obvious change is needed. Texas fans DO NOT accept mediocrity.

3. Loosing is not a word.
