Some say Miles 2007 NC was Luck

In the penultimate BCS standings, USC had a comfortable lead on LSU (6.90 v 8.43) The Trojans were ranked higher in human polls and computer rankings and also had better strength-of-schedule ratings. The expectations was that USC would play Okla in the Sugar Bowl with LSU left out. But then Boise St. beat Hawaii. That's what happened. Combined with Syracuse's 38-12 pasting of Notre Dame the Tigers got enough boost to nudge USC by .16 of a percentage point getting Okla as USC was left with the Rose Bowl against #4 Michigan. So if it wasn't for luck, SABAN wouldn't have won a NC at LSU. He was lucky just like Miles or any other coach or team. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Sometimes people forget the TRUTH and FACTS.

There will almost always be some element of luck into getting into the BCSNCG.

I haven't seen any team go all the way without some help from lady luck. Don't sweat the rantards. They mean well.

The truth is you have no idea what you have done here.
The fact is Les Miles was coaching Okie St in the timeframe you speaketh of

every national champion has to have a strong measure of luck, no matter how good they are.
IMHO, miles has one more year to demonstrate that he can actually coach.

Yes. Absolutely true.
But some would rather ignore the facts.

we were very lucky to get to play for the NC both times. but we won both times.
i remember the chips falling like they did in 03 and how amazed i was it was actually happening. i stayed up to 3:00 Am listening to anyone making the predictions of how the final standings would shake out.
then in 07, despite the worst called game i have ever seen, Pitt wins. and we have 2 losses? i mean, wow. it was meant to be.

Let's talk about today? We are 8-8 in the last 16 SEC games, we can't beat ranked teams and we struggle to beat inferior teams. So, in your opinion, does Miles and staff play a role in that or not? Do you think they are the best coaches in the nation and are doing all that can be done with the talent on the team?

Both LSU 2003 and LSU 2007, with an home loss(rare of NCAA champs), 2007's two losses(extremely rare)..
Both needed two upsets later in the day after their SECCG wins, to land in the BCSCG.
LSU just never has done the unbeaten thing very well. LSU is closer to Fla's title winning via one-loss seasons in 1996 and 2006 modus-operandi, than are Bama's history of unbeaten title seasons.
It's just the way LSU is.

winning a NC is always luck.
04-USC had to hang on to beat VA Tech in DC.
05-Texas, well had to have a brain fart from Pete Carroll to come back to beat USC.
06-Florida DE blocked two Ryan Succup FG's, USC lost to UCLA and Florida won the NC.
07-See WV vs Pitt

Also, a missed call by the refs. Young's knee was down on a pitch that either resulted in a TD or lead to a TD, can't remember.

Yes there is always luck, but when you are the only Two loss team to win a bcsnc its really fricking lucky, in 03 we just had that one loss and was better than any team in the nation i cant say that about 07

Hold On!
Every NC takes lots of luck to reach and luck to win.
Saban, however developed the players that won in 2003, miles did not develop the player that won in 2007. Miles is "lucky" not because he made it to the NC, he was lucky because of the talent he inherited from Saban.

Ummmm.... Needing almost every legitimate team to lose TWO games, and then jump from #7 to #2 in the rankings says a lot about how lucky you are. Very different from jumping from #3 to #2.

Yes, but two loss luck? That late in the season? And playing Tennessee instead of Florida?
That may not happen again, ever.

Let's talk about today.Yes, Miles and his staff are certainly responsible for their record. No, I do not think they are the best coaches in the nation. I think when Stud the "DUD" says he will work harder and better next year, that would indicate to me he set on his arse this year. Judging from the personnel on the OL and their performance this year, I would run his arse off. Former players have said he doesn't stress technique or fundamentals and having watched the OL this year I can certainly believe that. Crowton's offensive play calling is predictable to say the least. When Trindon or Shepard are in the game everyone in Tiger stadium knows what play is coming. You would think that he could be creative enough to run several plays off of the same formation but he never does. Why not have Shepard throw off the sweep instead of always running the ball. Miles needs to publically show some emotions, so that, we know he is alive. He can't always be the nice guy and he'd better face that fact or he will be history. He needs to agressively take charge and show that he is the Leader.

OMG everyone has to discredit anything good he has ever done. He has done some good at LSU.
