In an earlier thread someone said BR is a so so town. I responded but should have started this thread.

As I look at other college towns, I would like to know the ones that people think are better than BR.

I'm an Alabama fan and and i'm not being baised against LSU when i say this. I lived in BR for 7 yrs growing up and i just never liked it. There are alot of college towns better than BR.

Tuscaloosa the city might not be as good as BR but the UA campus is just as nice if not better than LSU's. I do agree though that BR the city is better.

Austin yes.
Boulder, yes
Chapel Hill/Durham, probably.
Athens. I disagree. There's nothing there but the University. In some ways it is better. In other ways, not.

The context of the other post had to do with recruiting and why a kid would go to LSU in regards to the town itself.

I have been to all the SEC campuses except UK, and none of the towns are better.

My point is that of course there are some, but not as many as some might think.

Oh yeah, I forgot. New Orleans? Doesn't there need to be an actual college worth attending?

Every pic ive seen of the campus makes it look very nice and clean and just sleek looking. Planning on possibly going visit in march for a convention thing.

absolutely not.. their stadium looks like trash, ours looks cool, and their stadium is right next to the "hood"... our campus is way better then theirs....

I adored BR in my 7 years there, but the city has some undesirable aspects too. The largest of which is crime.

So...here's my list of 'better' college towns that I've been to:

Austin, Ann Arbor, and Nashville.

I've lived in B.R. for 25 years within 45 minutes driving distance my whole life before that.

And I can honestly say if it weren't for LSU athletics and my family and friends...if you dropped me down on earth all things being equal, there are alot of towns, college and otherwise I'd live before Baton Rouge.

But LSU sports trumps all and if for whatever reason my wife and I parted ways, I'd get one of those fancy condo apartments and live right by LSU.

Agree. But keep the context in mind.

I like Nashville, but since Vandy is so insignificant I would almost not call Nashville a college town at all.
