Miles needs to offer the OC Job

to Dana Holgerson from Houston after the season is over. The guy coached QB's for 8 years at Texas Tech, was also Offensive Coord, and what he has done at Houston in just 2 years speaks for itself. If I'm a head coach looking for an innovative OC who can make sure the talent that I have is maximized then Dana Holgerson would by my hands down first choice.

I concur. This means we'll end up hiring some unknown guy from St Mary's St

Knowing Les Miles, some washed up coordinator who has been run our of another program.

Yeah he seems to like experienced well known guys for coordinator positions thus far. Well at least when his job starts to come on the line, if not you get Malveto.

The guys that Miles needs to interview after the season is over for the the OC job are as follows.
1) Dana Holgerson OC at Houston
2) Neal Brown OC at Troy
3) Bryan Harsin OC at Boise State
4) Jeff Quinn OC at Cincinatti
5) Gus Malzahn OC Auburn
6) Tony Franklin OC at Middle Tenn State
7) Sonny Dykes OC at Arizona
8) Danny Langsdorf OC at Oregon State
9) David Shaw OC at Stanford
10)Mark Helfrich OC at Oregon
Every one of the guys above have great track records, have been highly successful at multiple places, great play callers and in game managers, and all have shown they can produce incredible QB play from their QB's year in and year out.
If I was Miles the 10 mentioned above would be the short list of OC's that I would look to bring in to take LSU to the next level.

:starting to sound like a broken record: Who would take the LSU OC job with Les Miles on the hotseat?

Houston throws the ball 90 percent of the time. I don't like that system in the sec.
Posted on 11/23/09 at 4:51 am to KingwoodLsuFan
Actually no they don't. They throw the ball 64% of the time and run the ball 36 % of the time. Irregardless it doesn't matter what your run pass ratio is. The object of an offense is to score more points than the other team. Houston leads the nation in offensive snaps per game with 91 and they lead the nation in scoring points per game.

Still going from Conference Usa opponents to Sec Opponents is a big leap. Im just not sold on that type of offense in the sec.

Who says he is officially on the hot seat? Who would take the job? I'll tell you who. An Offensive Coordinator somewhere else that would have an incredible opportunity to better his coaching career and way of life by coming to LSU and making a lot more money than he's making now and have a chance to coach one of the best group of athletes assembled on any one team in America and coach in the best conference in college football. That would be reason enough for me to take the job if it was offered to me.

I hear ya Kingwood. You do have to remember that going from Conference USA skill guy's and QB's to run an offense to SEC athletes like the one's LSU has is a big leap as well. I remember everyone saying that Spurrier's and Meyer's offense would not work in the SEC either and boy were those people dead wrong. Any offense can work as long as you have the athletes and personal to make it go.

I totally agree that Miles needs to go I'm just saying if he doesn't and we all know he won't following the season then he should get a new OC like the Ten I listed and it would help him and LSU out in a huge way.

I'd take Charlie Weis over all of those except Malzahn. I think he would be a great OC. He just sucked being the head guy at a program with lesser talent. He certainly could develop the quarterbacks better than anyone at LSU or on that list imo.

Someone with confidence would. You can guarantee if an OC came into LSU and righted the ship and we win an SEC title or more with a new offense, that OC would be on the short list for HC at major Div I Universities.

Ole Charlie wouldn't be a bad hire but he would in my opinion never come to a school like LSU in the south and be an OC if anything he will return to the NFL and be an OC there and continue the success he had with the patriots. I don't think personal pride will allow him to be an OC at the college level but thats just my personal opinion.

Starkville Tiger Fan, After the debacle on Saturday, do you not think that things got at least a little warmer for Miles?

Knowing Les, he will go with Co-OC's and the fan base will come unglued.

I definitely don't want an o cood. that throws it 90% of the time. All it takes is for the qb to off one night and you lose the game.

Pretty good resume'. Learned offense under Leach and Mumme. LSU would be a step up for Holgerson and he would seem to be the type that is "Hireable." He is also familiar with the same area that LSU already recruits. Hopefully, he could improve the development of our WR's and help out technique wise to eliminate the chronic drops. Don't know what he could do for our QB's since he's a former WR and I'm not a big fan of position coaches teaching a position that they've never actually played.
I DO think he would effectively use the existing offensive talent at LSU much better than GC. (Who wouldn't?) Hire the guy AND a dedicated QB coach. Eliminate the TE coach and let whomever is the new WR coach, coach WR's and TE's since they both do the same thing. (Catch passes-Run routes and block)...........
