During Saban's five seasons at LSU (2000-2004), he had 24 players that were selected in the NFL draft. Of these 24 players, 17 were already on the LSU roster before Saban ever coached a game as a Tiger.

The original poster left off Brandon Whiney, Norman Lejeune, and Louis Williams. There were actually 23 players that Saban inherited that played pro football. With those 23, he lost to UAB. Saban did alot of great things, but he inherited many good players. His worshipers hold Miles to a different standard.

Why? No one is accusing Miles of building from the ground up.

He didn't have to. Saban left the cupbaord full as shite and Miles needs to maintain it. He has done well with that, BUT Saban is THE better coach.

Dude, no spin zone here. Go back and read the OP. It's about whether Saban built LSU from the ground up. Most know that's not true. Capiche'?

Saban rose a sleeping giant.

7 losing seasons in 10 years before Saban. Countless goofballs as coaches. The early 90s had half full stadiums to start the game versus SEC opponents.

Saban built as ground up as you can for an SEC team.

If the OP is debating if Saban built LSU from ground up I thought Coates did. I mean LSU had been around for almost 100 years prior to Saban. So no the answer would be Saban did not build LSU from ground up. He took over a program that had been in decline for 10 years and turned it around.

Was there talent, sure but Saban too over a team that had lost 15 games in previous 2 seasons and won 8 his 1st season. Saban did build up the talent base of the entire program along with helping build better facilities.

frick, you miles coolaid drinkers just cannot give up your hate for Saban. LSU has always had some decent talent, it just a matter of coaching them and Saban coached them and imo better than Miles.

Go be a fricking BAMA fan if you love tasting Sabans balls so much.

You people on this board that treat Les Miles like the second coming of Christ are an absolute joke. I have no opinion of Saban or Dinardo, because they aren't coaching the team I give a shite about(LSU). The bottom line is this, measuring a coach is very simple, what condition is the program when he/she arrives compared to present day or when they leave. Make your own opinion of any coach from that, but my personal belief is we were in heading in a better direction in '04 than we are now. Therefore, I believe Miles is average at best. This fan believes LSU deserves far better than average.

Damn....I could go on for a while.....so what's the big deal??

Saban got us going again. Improved the facilities and brought expectations to a new level. His defenses were fun to watch. His offenses were hit and miss. His results(wins) were great ONE year, but the rest were mediocre based on what our expectations are for Miles present day.

Saban is an arse with poor character. His time at Bama will be short lived.

Administration officials, coaches, players and fans will get tired of his style and the magic will be gone. His style of coaching is great as long as you constantly win and ultimately win the MNC. As the pressure mounts due to his failure to get it done, the tide will start to turn on him. He will start lashing out at the fans.("Are you fans or supporters of the program.")

Players tolerate getting their arse chewed if they are awarded with a crystal ball. Administration officials walk on eggshells around him for only so long...

In the end, he leaves when he knows he is not welcome anymore..

You can only blame everyone else for your failures for a limited amount of time.

My bet is it occurs within 5 years.
