The pick that wasn't

I'll start with the actual play and move on after that. Obviously i'm biased. Here's the deal though....it's obvious that the refs on the field had NO clue whether it was a catch or not. I know they HAVE to make a call and they probably just went with "If he made that play, it was a hell of a play and it's more likely he didn't" as an explanation. So it went upstairs.
Now, Verne and Gary chip in their 2 cents for what seems like forever and Gary says this: "Ya know....I THINK that's an interception" after watching it for the 2,000th time. Well guess what....think doesn't cut it. It was called incomplete and there is NOTHING in the replay that absolutely and unequivocally shows that it was definitively an interception. It was as close as it gets. He catches the ball and his toe comes down extremely close to the line(not the stupid divot in the dirt. that was before the catch) and even as he's doing that...he's tucking the ball to put it laces in. Now, if a receiver catches a ball over the middle and pulls that move and gets lit up and the ball comes lose....it's an incompletion because he didn't have possession.
My point is, it was a bang-bang play. It wasn't nearly as definitive as i've seen it made out to be and I really wonder if Gary Danielson's comments don't bring this shite on unnecessarily(much like the Cody helmet thing when it was shown that the game was over). Ultimately, it wasn't an interception. Know why? Because it wasn't called one. End of story.
I mean...it was a tough loss. There were times where it looked like LSU was going to pull it out. But over the last decade or so, haven't you guys been the beneficiary of "the breaks" more times than not? Miss State fans are still bitching that Anthony Dixon got in against you guys. Hell, just think of the entire 2007 season(and thank Dick Rod for blowing it one more time).
I'm really not trying to flame at all....because I like LSU and their fans. I really do. But the outpouring of hate from this one game is a bit much.
If you guys need a few days to recoup from a tough loss....I get that. I've been there. But if it stretches much longer, i'm calling the wahmbulance.
Now, commence with the bird flipping

Great write up IMO. The refs made the right call by the rulebook. There was no indisputable evidence to overturn the initial call.

No bird flipping, you're biased. Yo;re flaming. I would say the same thing if was flipped around. End of story.

Everyone saw the guys feet hit in bounds.

Yes there is. At least one foot in bounds(probably two, but only one is needed). Also, he had complete control of the ball from the time it touched his hands. It was an INT and it was indisputable. They screwed the pooch on that call.
Having said that, I don't think it would've made a difference had they gotten it right. After Jefferson and then Scott getting hurt, they couldn't move the ball at all.

we had plenty of earlier chances to change the outcome of the game which would have made the interception call moot.
i can recall half a dozen plays where Ingram, despite his outstanding ability, should have been taken down near the line of scrimmage had our defensive guys not been tackling him with spaghetti noodle arms.
the pathethic 3rd and 2 play when ridley got stuffed.
our once again RAMPANT disorganization on offense and PATHETIC game/clock management.
you budget for bad calls. you count on them happening in every game. you avoid the situation by capitalizing on opportunities when they are presented and not letting up when you have your opponent on the ropes.
geaux tigers.

Holy shite I agree with every word of this. frick Bama?

Take the Crimson Glasses off, it was a pick. If you don't think so you shouldn't be watching football or even posting here because you don't know a thing about football. SEC officials surely have been suspect this year protecting the top two teams to keep their ranking. I know they can't always get it right but it really looks strange when obvious calls that should be made or over turned are not. So be happy with your tainted win and move on.

I disagree. And while i'm biased as a fan, i can say with no bias that i saw nothing that showed he definitively had control and got a foot in. I saw the replay a lot. I have pretty good effing tv and the best angle in hd that they had....I couldn't see that he got a foot down.
Actually, LSU fans may want to blame the camera man for not having a better shot of the play

His right toe was dragging the whole time, and his left foot may have come in inbounds as well.

You didn't mean to say this to me did you?

He might have. He did use the "taint" word

okay this is where you lose any credibility. control was never in doubt.. the ball never moved after it touched Patrick's hands.

This is the only reason I can think of that you would think that's not a catch.

Answer this
If Peterson makes that play in the middle of the field and then gets hit and loses the ball...is it a fumble or incompletion? It's an incompletion because he hadn't secured the ball. He was in the process of securing it as he stepped out.
Tainted win my arse. Move on. Try not to let it screw up your last few games like it did last year

I can't think of a reason that a replay official would say "screw it....i'm gonna say incomplete"
Ref didn't even say "inconclusive evidence". He said "ruling on the field is confirmed". Maybe the replay official had a different angle, because the tv angles weren't conclusive. I'm sorry.
We can flatter ourselves all we want as fans....but the refs do know more football than us. I know we think they've done a shitty job and in some cases they have....but none of us would do better or really even come close.

It was a pick, but these are the breaks.

Sandkhan, are you blind or just stupid? Even your fellow Alabama fans know that was an interception...He had controll of the ball - you do not have to tuck the ball for an interception and plus, he had two feet inbounds...WTF are you looking at?
Posted on 11/8/09 at 6:32 am to Sandkhan
I don't have any trouble saying it was a bad call.
OTOH, LSU had 9 yards of offense total in the 4th.
Bama started taking a knee at midfield with 2 minutes left.

The question isn't whether it was a pick. It's if there was an angle that ABSOLUTELY showed that he had control and got a foot down.
To me, there isn't. If someone wants to disagree with me....that's fine. The SEC referees agreed with my initial thoughts. There is no replay angle i've seen that i can pause and 100% say "Wow....PP had possesion and got a foot down in bounds"
It was damn close. But even his pinky toe out of bounds is out of bounds.
