Yo Mamma's

After hearing from many people how great the burgers are at Yo Mamma's and how they are as good as POC...we finally tried it last night.
Honestly...my husband and I both thought it was one of the worst burgers we've ever eaten. I don't know what happened? I don't know if it was an off night or maybe the meat was going bad. I just don't know.
The meat was completely flavorless and it had a very strange and mushy consistency. I literally took two bites of mine and left the rest.
Two burgers with baked potato, a piece of pie and a beer....$40.
No thanks, I'll stick with POC, which has always been incredible.
Here's a review from Trip Advisor that words exactly what I was thinking about the texture of it...
Recently being touted as the 'Best Burger in the Quarter', we decide to go try this place - what a mistake - an expensive mistake at that. We should've stuck with our original plan - walk a few more blocks and go to the real "Best Burger in New Orleans" - Port O'Call - it would've been oh so much better, and cheaper. Oh well - the burger here was unquestionably large, but the combination of all these toppings slathered w/heavy mayo made for a big giant mess - the bun quickly became completely unidentifiable due to so many ingredients leaking all over - and the burger flavor you crave is so well hidden within all the stuff, you really cannot tell it's even a burger. You simply cannot taste that great grilled flavor of a really well-made hamburger: instead, you find you're always eating a lot of sloppy, tasteless 'stuff' that has all melded together into a big pile on your plate. There was no familiar hamburger mouth-feel - that soothing textured bite you take and enjoy in a great burger was non-existent - you could eat this thing without teeth, it was so messy and soggy. In this case, bigger isn't better - just bigger. I just want a nice, big, juicy, fresh hamburger - not this mess. What are they hiding? And the huge potato is absolutely nothing to write home about - you can get a better baked potato at Wendy's for $.99. I recommend you leave well enough alone - don't experiment - go eat at Port O'Call if you really want the "Best Burger in New Orleans". This place would be best for those people who love buffetts - who want quantity over quality - don't say you didn't know or weren't warned - buyer beware.

Not at all. It was cooked, but mushy at the same time. It wasn't greasy either. It's hard to explain. The review I copied and pasted from Trip Advisor seemed to put it in better words than I did.
My busband was even inspecting the patty and it just had a really weird consistecy. He went to pull it apart and it came perfectly apart across the middle horizontally and was mushy in the middle....like it seemed like two separate patties were pressed together and cooked. I dunno how to explain it.

I still think Martin's Wine Cellar makes as good of a burger as anyone in NOLA.
Glad you told us to stay the hell away from this place!

weird.
I remember them having a pretty loosely packed patty and pretty soft/delicate bun, but i like both of those qualities. But, the patty usually had a nice sear to give it a texture contrast.
Maybe it was just a bad day, or have they gone downhill in the last year?

I was thinking maybe it was just a bad day...then I read the review from Trip Advisor that seemed to say exactly what we thought.
Maybe it's just not my kind of burger because there are a ton of people that love them.

The burger at Luke costs a bit more, but it's better for sure.
Cafe Rani has an awesome one as well - about the same price as POC.

I do like the burger at Cafe Rani...but I don't think it's better than POC.
I've been to Luke twice in the past week and the service is just horrible...but I suffer through for the 25 cent oysters during happy hour.

It was bad for me last time as well...this was January.
Why did you go back a second time so soon?

and my burger was cooked to the texture of a hockey puck. Sent it back, and i am positive they sent the exact same burger back and were complete assholes. I ordered it med rare fwiw. never giving them a dime again, and routinely advise people to avoid that place.

I wonder if the service is decent at Domenica?
Posted on 11/2/09 at 12:48 pm to BrockLanders
no idea about Domenica, but some people love Luke. I wouldn't rule out any place based on a single bad review.
eta: but the Luke stuff is far from a singular experience it seems.

I explained that...suffered through for 25 cent oysters. It's perty awesome to be able to get P&J oysters every single day for 25 cents....so I deal with the bad service.
Yesterday we had a party of 12 people. The place wasn't busy at all. We were only getting oysters and drinks and I ordered some fries. The oysters were coming really slow..but that's not the waitreses fault at all and it's happy hour so we weren't bothered by that. But the service on just getting us drinks and the fries was so horrible that we all resulted to going straight to the bar to get drinks..INCLUDING WATER REFILLS!!! It was nuts. An HOUR after ordering my fries my husband finally went to find the waitress and ask her what was going on. She apologized and said she'd check on them. 30 minutes later...still nothing. He asked again. Then she brings them out in a box! We're like WTF? She says...oh I thought you wanted it to go. They were soggy. We finally all gave up and left.
The weekend before when I went, I sat at the bar and was pretty much ignored by the bartender. It was just really bad.

Sorry - men have been known not to listen occasionally!

I went to Yo Mama's about 6 mos. ago and was unimpressed. I tried 2 different burgers and both were OK, but certainly not the best I've ever had or even remotely close. Then again, I think POC is overrated, too.

Flapjack...what are your favorite burgers? I'm curious since you find POC to be overrated. I'm always up for trying burger places that are recommended.
I like POC, Swamp Room and Beach Corner.
