Wasnt around to see them but I hear 1987 was sick. Im going to say they are the best just off seeing the clips of Andolsek blocking The Fridge.

And you are missing Hitt for 2007. That was his first year starting. I would say 2007's was the second best.

ETA: Arnold's last year was 2006. Its a shame he had couldnt play more. He was a absolute monster when healthy.

Yeah, you are right. I remember him coming in a few times against VT and UF. What a shame though.

I think my own question is one I cannot answer, but this would have been the nest line in CFB history:

C - Wilkerson
G - Andolsek
G - Faneca
T - Norwood
T - Whitworth

Albergamo was awesome, but he was only about 255 pounds and not sure he'd be able to handle today's likes of 300 pound d-linemen. Back in the 80's, guys like Russell Maryland were specimen; whereas now those guys are all over the place.

Instead of Wilkerson at C i would have to go with Mawae.

It is too early to include this team's O-Line. The one's you've mentioned played their entire eligability, so I do not think it fair to these Tigers for you to include them with those units.
1987 was the greatest followed closely by 2003 & 2007. The reason that the 1987 team did not play the NC was because of Coaching the talent then was as great if not greater than they where during 2003 or 2007. JMHO!

If he was it still points to the fact how much good Coaching does for a team. There is no doubt that LSU has had talent even in the down years. I like what Coach Bear Bryant said back in the late to early sixties.

"Give me LSU's talent and I will win the SEC every year and compete for the National Championship."

I agree with what he said LSU flat out has had the talent year in and year out we did not have the Coaching to match the talent we have had.

Should be:

LT - A. Withworth
LG - A. Faneca
C - K. Mawae
RG - Todd McClure
RT - C. Black

Brandon Winey and Stephen Peterman in reserve.

To the OP:

Lyle Hitt was the other guard in 2007, Barksdale subed in for Stewart from time to time and Helms never got enough credit. 1997 had some studs, but '03 was the most complete offensive line IMO.

Nope, Kevin was a Sr. in 1993. Both Faneca and McClure were signed after that. All three are still playing in the NFL.

First thing that popped into my mind when I saw your post title:

1997

Faneca was a MAN and Kevin Faulk, Rondell Mealey, Cecil Collins (briefly) and Herb Tyler all benefited.

Just my gut talking, not a thorough or careful comparison of stats.

LSU was a damn strong rushing offense in '97 despite other weaknesses on the sideline.

Sr. year he played OC, Tom Turner played LT. Kevin played LT in 92.

Others on the line Mark King, Ronnie Simnicht and Ross Setters. Somemore names on that OL.
