The Official BCS Thread 10/25 - LSU #9 in OFFICIAL STANDINGS

Coaches Poll
Harris Poll
BCS STANDINGS
Miami had the only loss of note this week and otherwise the BCS standings remain mostly unchanged. Despite Cincinnati’s more impressive victory, I think Iowa might overtake them this week due to Iowa’s continued impressive computer scores. USC could jump Cincy as well.
LSU continues to be in good shape if they win out and would likely only need Texas or Iowa to lose. USC/Oregon could finish slightly higher in the computers, but I think LSU would get enough of an edge in the human polls. TCU and Boise look to have awful computer scores down the stretch basically killing any shot of a National Title for them. Cincinnati probably won’t fair well against 1-loss LSU or USC.
The argument continues to be undefeated Iowa versus 1-loss SEC teams. I quickly dismissed this last week, but Brad Edwards claims 1-loss SEC team would go. However, I still think he is wrong. I don’t see 1-loss Florida or Bama having any chance in hell. LSU has a much, much better shot (for a variety of reasons), but I still can’t see it in the numbers. Iowa has a deceivingly very tough schedule and the computers continue to reward them. Iowa would likely be ahead of LSU in all the computers. Worse yet, they would probably be ahead of Texas too. That computer gap would be waaay to much to overcome, and LSU would need to be ranked ahead of Iowa by almost every voter. I can’t imagine all the Big10 (and small school) voters putting an undefeated Iowa team behind a 1-loss team. A better bet for LSU might be if Cincy/TCU/Boise run the table as well. They could potentially create a wedge in the human polls for LSU.
BCS Standings:
1. Florida

4. Iowa
5. USC

4 LSU 0.931
5 Cincinnati 0.930

I think they could drop to N'western as well

Thanks for the update Matt... good work, as always...
This is what CFN has as the "BCS Championship pecking order" ... what would you change in here, besides putting an undfeated Iowa ahead of a 1-loss SEC champ? Personally, I think CFN is spot-on, and I still believe a 1-loss SEC champ would get the nod over an undefeated Iowa team when all is said and done. The nation, and the voters, want an SEC team in the title game when all is said and done IMO.

LINKBut perception does matter, and right or wrong, the SEC is the top dog and the Big 12 is considered No. 2. So if all things are equal, what’s the pecking order for the national title? Whether you believe this is true or not, here it is (going on the current records and perceptions) …
No. 1 – Undefeated SEC champion
No. 2 – Undefeated Texas
No. 3 – One loss SEC champion
No. 4 – Undefeated Iowa
No. 5 – One loss Big 12 champion, Texas
No. 6 – Undefeated Cincinnati
No. 7 – One loss USC or Oregon (yes, even with the loss to Boise State, and no, it’s not fair)
No. 8 – One loss ACC champion
No. 9 – Undefeated Boise State
No. 10 – Undefeated TCU
But if this really is the case, ask yourself this: would a Cincinnati vs. Iowa national championship really be so bad? For Fox, yes, for college football, no.

We need an OSU or two to win.

CFN's whole pecking order looks like a bunch of crap to me. I think Cincy goes over 1-loss Texas. And I think 1-loss USC or Oregon goes over either one.

I'm not sure if Ohio State has scored 3 touchdowns the entire season so far.
I kid, of course. Ohio State is pretty awful on offense.

USC ahead of LSU is stupid, we lost to the #1 team in the country they lost to an unranked team that we beat
For a while I argued that USC had more quality wins and LSU was winning ugly. But USC is winning ugly and that Ohio State win doesn't look great anymore.

Let's assume Oklahoma State beats Texas, but Texas wins out and wins the Big12 title game...
You would put an undefeated Cincinnati team in over an 1-loss Texas team?
Not saying I disagree, because a lot of it is going to depend on how impressive Cincy looks in the mediocre BigEast...they really need to be impressive in these games IMO. If they're not, I think I give the edge to Texas personally.
(obviously, in this context, I'm assuming it just comes down to who gets in between Cincy or Texas ... and we don't have an undefeated Iowa or 1-loss USC clouding the picture).

matt - let me get this correct... you're projecting LSU to be 'still #9?'

I know you didn't mean it like that, but I hate it when people act like the BCS just picks who they want.
Cincy's computer score would be much better than Texas. That would be hard/maybe impossible to overcome. And yes, I would vote an undefeated team from a BCS conference (that is statistically better than the Big12) over Texas.

lsumatt - how strong your ranking is impacts the 'consensus / consolidated' ranking in the bcs correct, i.e. all this first place votes thrown to bama, texas and florida impact how strong their position is in the bcs?
in addition, TCU and Texas probably had the biggest impact wins of the weekend with the computers and the voters... LSU might well have had a top 5 win, in regard to impact, with a victory over auburn... and 5 - 2 conference rival...
we grind these poll results... the bottom line is 'keep winning.'

Yeah, the BCS is a lot of fun to follow... I love the week-to-week polls, etc...
That said, I don't think anyone ever believed LSU would win the national title, and most reasonable LSU fans still don't expect us to win the BCS title, but it sure is fun to keep up with.
We just need to keep improving and continue to be patient as JJ matures in this offense. 9-3 and I'll be content given the schedule and young QB. Anything better than 9-3 and I'll be thrilled with how the 2009 season played out for the Tigahs. I don't care about style points anymore. I'll take a 3-2 win at Bama. All that said, if we somehow manage to take down Bama, you never know ...

Going into Bama at 7-1, I think we can legitimately talk about it now. And a win there, we are right in the mix.
