the drivel about how many weapons we have on offense. Every year (since about 2004) before the season starts, every third post on this board is a rantard gushing about how we have so many talented players on offense that nobody will be able to stop us. Can we all agree now that playing as a TEAM will determine our fate and not our recruiting stars? There's only one ball out there and if the offense has no rhythm, it doesn't matter how many 4 and 5 star receivers you have roaming the field.
Here's a good one I found from August this year:

The same should be said for all of the twats who are now saying all of these recruits suck.

Melleaux, you have got to stop being rational or you may get banned from this board.
The thought never occurs to many that maybe, just maybe we are not as good as some think. Also, if a freshman qb does not produce, he is to never see the field again because we all know that no one ever learns or grows as a qb. You either have it or you don't. And while we are at it, fire everyone...we can have anyone we want at LSU. The truth is that clm is the best coach for LSU. I don't care about style points nor does he.

but did you notice that neither your quoted message nor yours specifically mentioned offensive linemen. People talk "offense" but for some reason I have never understand, they leave out 44% of the offensive players on the field...the OL. Having all the skill players in the world doesn't matter if you can't block for them. Nebraska used to win NC with not that great skill players in general but great OL and tough defenses. Not sure that would work these days, but games are still won for the most part by the trenches.

There are lot's of weapons, we just need good coaching to assemble them all and put them to use.

Would you please tell me how you're so sure of this? not flaming, just looking for a rational explanation for this certainty.

Agreed Tomm. It's difficult to measure the potential of the OL until you see it in action in a game, which is why I think most people overlook it. It's also difficult sometimes to separate the struggles of the skill positions from the struggles of the OL. This is why it's such a crapshoot to try to say how good we are going to be on offense until we actually see them play. You never know if the chemistry or the line play is there.

WE HAVe SO MANY BEASTS!!!!! UNSTOppable!!!!

We do have a lot of weapons on offense. They're just missing the ammunition so they aren't doing any good.
I'm chalking all of this up to coaching by our OC. I see how the defense has improved since last year and has gotten better as the season has progressed. That's coaching.

We do have 50 caliber bullets, but it doesn't matter if you've brought a shotgun to shoot it(Crowton) now does it.

Tolliver and LaFell will be in the NFL, but they hardly got to touch the ball because it was rarely even put in the air.

Totally agree. We need to pick an offensive style that suits the personnel and master it. This is totally a coaching fault. I'm not doubting our talent at all.

Billie Ray CLM is a great representative of LSU. A great recruiter, good man, and does what he is supposed to do for the team like getting rid of RP
even though he knew the situation he would put himself in. By the way, check his record against a vastly improved SEC in the last 5 years. That sir is my logic.

Optimism sucks. We should spend our entire offseason talking about how much the offense will suck, the defense will suck, and that the Tigers will go 0-12. That sounds like fun.

Lets see, LSU as of right now has 3 offensive linemen who were rated at 3 stars starting and 1 who was a 4 star DT. And we wonder why the O-line is second rate, go figure. Our best reciever, Lafell, was a 3 star recruit. Holliday was a 2 star for crying out loud. Jefferson, our starting QB was a 3 star as well and our starting FB wasn't even rated. Thats 7 of the 11 starters that were 3 star or less depending on what recruiting service you use. What do you guys really expect from average rated players. This really shouldn't be that shocking.

the truth...been saying this for 2yrs now. big time players make big time plays and we haven't been seeing much of that recently...have we? an awful lot of star recruits just haven't gotten it done. the one that did have huge star power potential quit on his team...his school...and himself. we're still pretty good but until we establish a running game our future is cloudy.

This does highlight how underacheiving our offense really is. There's nothing wrong with being excited about the players, but I guess you are right. We cant keep expecting all this talent to be utilized.

I didn't say anything about expectations. I'm fine with expectations. I just think people need to take off the P&G glasses before the season starts and quit pretending that talent alone will put wins on the board for us.
