Are they still there or did the renovations get them? They would make a small fortune in revenue nenovated as gameday condos. Any of you rantards
ever spend a semester there while at LSU?

They're still there but in a shitty state

I agree..they have to clean up the asbestos first though...if they did that and put flat screens and bars in them...I agree they could make freaking crazy fortune...if the university can't afford to do it...they should partner with an investor..if that is legal and do it...

I'd be all over that. What a great scene that could be.

Started freshman year, then was able to move out of that un-air conditioned hellhole (we called it "the Rock"-into Power Hall across Campus. AC all the way Baby! Ole roomie is still pissed I abandoned him there.
Gameday condos would probably make a freakin' mint--can't believe LSU doesn't do this.

It would speed up the process of wanting to fill in the upper decks snow the endzones

My dad lived in them for about 2 weeks back in his day.
Then they kicked him out to build the upper deck.

Uncle lived in them. Said it was the hottest - - and the coldest - - he's ever been in his entire life.

I don't understand why the university hasn't improved this stadiums facilities and taken advantage of the old dorms...they could turn it into suites or game day hotel rooms...and make a killing...the place is in need of a serious reno anyway..

You'd have an amazing view of the band coming down victory hill!

They were already in a shitty state in 1972-3, when I lived in one of them.

A friend of mine lived there back in the 80s. No air conditioning. shite hole at best.
Gameday condos are a great idea, imo.... or just plain ole condos even better.

I lived in South Stadium for 2 years in the 1960's. We called our dorm "South Rock." It was memorable, if uncomfortable.

I know at the University of Louisville they rent out train cars, which are right outside the stadium and its pretty tight... They are very nice, pretty much a suite to tailgate in.. It would be cool if they renovated them to "suite" status for high level TAF people to rent out to tailgate in before games.. Plus, in some of them, you can see the players and band come through... Some people would pay top dollar for them.... But I like the old look of the stadium, it adds to the prestigness(not sure if thats a word) of the stadium

My father lived in the Tiger stadium dorm when he played football for LSU in the 1930s.
Later on, when I went to LSU, my roommate's boyfriend lived there and threw a wooden barricade out of his dorm window. He was arrested. We laughed.

It would be a real money maker...hate to see how much these would cost though.

Everyone says this is what's keeping them back, and I sort of understand it.
However, virtually every building in the country that was built during the same era as the stadium dorms was also full of asbestos, and a huge number of those have undergone extensive asbestos abatement and are now in use.
What, exactly, is so unusual about the asbestos in these dorms that's taking them 30+ years to figure out how to clean it out feasibly?

I think the asbestos problem is highly exaggerated and the liability for drunken foolishness is the greater deterrent.
The living areas may have had asbestos floor tiles, which aren't releasing asbestos into the athmosphere but the place was cinder blocks and plaster. What other asbestos is there besides perhaps some covering on hot water pipes that is not in the living areas? It's not like there was ship construction or mining going on in there.
Students lived in there for decades and no class action has been brought agaisnt LSU for mesotheleoma (sp?).

Two semesters (1963) in the Rock (north end zone). An unforgetable experience; remember watching the news reports on Kennedy assisnation in the TV break room.
