It's called the Corps of Cadets. It teaches discipline, and some of them are ROTC as well.

i dont think anything about a&m is normal, though

A&M is weird as shite. You don't see LSU sending some corps to games because they had that in their history. A&M needs an identity other than sheep-fricking. They have the corps idea and ran with it.

It's basically an ROTC program. When they become juniors, they are given the option of dropping the ROTC part but staying in the Corp. They do all kinds of military exercises and such. The most impressive part is the marching. When Army came to College Station to play, it was widely believed that the A&M Corps were better marchers than the Westpoint cadets.

And it is brutal for freshman. The sophomores (seniors and juniors mostly don't care) are complete dicks to them. When Westpoint came, they said it was ridiculous how much A&M Corps abused the freshman (verbally for the most part). It goes to the point where it does more harm than anything. One of my suitemates quit the Corps 3 days into hell week.

So did you post here to ask a question? Or, to show your ignorance about the US Military and other military-related institutions?
During my brother's stint in Iraq ~2 years ago one of his best friends was an Aggie and was killed by enemy fire. I would love to see you convince him OR a single member of their unit that this young man was trained in a "fake military" before going full-time.

Sorry. The only idiots that I've ever heard say that were both from Texas Tech. Imagine that.

I did a quick google search...

Say what you want about the Corps but the band is badass. Easily one of, if not the best in College Football.

I know many who have been in the corp.
TAMU was founded to be a military school in the first place. My grandfather left in the middle of college to fight in Europe as an Army officer and came back and finished. He was originally class of 1943. I respect TAMU and all it's about. I understand people on the outside see them as different but honestly thats what makes them so great is the strong tradition and family atmosphere world wide. His ring is almost smooth on top, if it could talk it would be a fricking awesome story. My uncle and mom are also grads.

Members of the Cadet Corps have served in every conflict fought by the United States since the Spanish-American War. During World War II, Texas A&M produced 20,229 Aggies who served in combat. Of those, 14,123 were commissioned as officers, more than the combined total of the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy during the same timeframe.[3] Over 225 Aggies have served as Generals or Flag Officers,[4] while seven former students have been awarded the highest United States military award, the Medal of Honor:[5][6]
Man, I wonder why we had officers from a fake military in WW2. We should have used real ones and conquered Russia when we finished with Germany. [/sarcasm]
Dude, I know that the corp is weird and a lot people don't understand anything about A&M, but show some respect for what A&M has produced for our military, and thank them and God that you're not typing this in German.
