Hi Guys,

I did a cost of living comparison to compare where I'm at now..houston to baton rouge.

Does this sound right to everyone?

The low cost of "small town" living is a huge myth. Houston has really cheap housing and I'd be willing to bet things like your cable bill and groceries will be cheaper there.

Groceries in Houston are comparable to BR.

Cable, internet, water etc... was approx the same

The cost of living is comparable, but your earning power is higher in Houston

I guess Cox has started to price their bundles pretty agressively, when I looked a few years ago you got more cable/net/phone for $20 - $30 less per month in ATL than BR.

I believe it. Lived in houston for 6 years. now live in baton rouge for over a year. our budget in houston for 2 weeks has increased now to make it in baton rouge.

I have lived in both and currently reside in Houston and seems to be pretty accurate. I think Houston is probably even cheaper than that compared to B.R. espcially in terms of Housing...not sure how Houston compares to B.R. in size...Houston has so many options for food and utilities

I think better value in Htown

Houston is cheaper. Still, Baton Rouge is a bargain when compared to other metros nationally.

It says that Metairie is more expensive that New Orleans, and housing is 22% more expensive there. I call bs.

Right. There's a huge difference in rent between those areas of NO fit for human habitation and those that are not

That couldn't possibly be true, Metairie doesn't even technically exist.

Brilliant comment as usual. Do you genuinely dispute that rents are higher in say, Audobon than in Treme? Or that anyone with the money and sense to do so would be 1,000 times better off living in Audobon than Treme?
