Whats your opinion on this book? I'm not much of a reader at all but started reading this book last night and I'm hooked so far.

The football and LSU aspect of it is pretty good. However the authors whining and complaining gets a little old and aggravating.

It really is just a sad story about a guy that spent most of his life miserable because he felt the good old days were gone.

It was not really what I was expecting from the 1000 posts about the book on here.

Not bad, I read it about a year ago. I would have to agree about the whining. You almost wanna feel sorry for the guy. My brother who I would bet never even read a book in high school felt compelled to read it, and he liked it. But Gravy when are you gonna come back to the Vatican and witness massive amounts of chest tube drainage?

Meh, its ok. If you want a good biography about football, read Romanowski's Romo My Life on the Edge: Living Dreams and Slaying Dragons. I liked that a lot more, because the guy admits half the time he was an a-hole.

He just seemed too self indulgent in his book. I only read the book once and did not like it.

i loved it. my dad was QB at OHS when John Ed played and they were pretty close. my dad said he was in really bad shape there for a while. him and a few guys would go over to john eds house every once in a while just to check on him, they said he was pretty much a hermit.

I guess one cool thing about the book is that im from Opelousas so it was cool to read about all these places that i knew personaly.

I enjoyed it. Seeing the program from a perspective as someone who wasn't as gung-ho about it was quite interesting. After meeting Bradley at a tailgate a couple of years ago, I can honestly say that he does have a passion for LSU, his means to an end are just vastly different than we would view most football players'.

It was okay. I enjoyed it at the outset... but then he came across as a whiny bitch to me. Got old as the book wore on...

I thought it was pretty great. People bitching about it being "whiny" probably bitch about other things all day.. which make them whiny.

Painful read... Felt sorry for the author even at the end.

Was this guy ever really happy?

Oh, I'm sad to hear that. I bought it for my brother-in-law the Christmas it came out (was it last year?). He didn't say anything bad about it, but he probably wouldn't since it was a gift and all.

I was a sophmore at LSU John Ed's Senior year. I remember the USC and Alabama games that year...two of the best I've ever been to and I've been going to game's since the early 70's. I met John Ed a couple of times and remember him as quiet and somewhat introspective. I liked the book a lot....thought it was well written plus it reminded me of my days at LSU. It's a good read in my opinion.
