LSU Defense Gave Up 81 Yards in the 2nd Half

That's pretty good.
We were also inside the 10 three times and settled for field goals. Better execution inside the Red Zone is needed.
The O Line has to get better.
We have to go downfield with the ball more in the passing game.
But, the Defense gave up 210 yards total and 7 points. Only 81 yards and ZERO points in the second half. They got blasted all last week. Just wanted to give them some credit.

Defense looked good. Rain handcuffs you.

We got some breaks here. Vandy's receivers dropped some key passes that would've gone for big gains.

Yeah, our offense had less than 100 yards in the 2nd half too. Maybe it was the sloppy field. Still either it was the field or it was great defense or poor offenses. Maybe it was a combination of all three.
At any rate, the defense seemed to play better, although we didn't have Jake Locker lining up against us.

We made some similar mistakes on offense, as well. It was a wash in that regard.

True, but I would've like to see better tackling from the LB's.

Rain benefited no one. Both teams had drops, and struggled to make tackles.
The bigger key in the second half is that LSU's playcalling after the opening drive was horrendous until we scored our final TD. Penalties also killed us. On one drive, we got a 10 yard run by Scott called back for holding. Went to 1st and 20, threw a swing pass for -3yards, threw another swing pass again for -2 yards, and had 3rd and 25. Overall, the playcalling was BAD, especially given the conditions we were playing in.
On their scoring drive we had them on 3rd and 10 and had their running back slip through the arms of a defender thanks to rain. That led to an 80 yard drive. Outside of that drive, they had 130 yards.

Yes, LSU defense only had one slip up against Vandy and it was their TD drive. So many things went wrong in that drive, from over pursuit, to missed tackles, and no containment, aka a repeat of the Washington game.
But for the most part the Defense did very well.
Keep in mind though, that Vandy's QB was very unimpressive. If LSU was facing a decent passer they would have given up many more yards, the Vandy QB was unable to make a ton of throws it seemed.

Not to mention the interception close to our endzone.
And it wasn't like a skilled DB read the route and picked it off. It was more like it went to the intended receiver, bounced out of his hands and a DB just found it in his.

They gave us second chance and we made them pay though

FWIW I suspect our defense will be very stout against a traditional pocket passer. It will be the scramblers that will give us trouble.
So basically, I will be going into the UF game content if we can keep it within 14.

In all honesty, lots of good QBs would look just as unimpressive in a rain filled game. The field was soaked, and players were slipping. Vandy had a total of two or three drops, so I am not sure where people are getting that the game is totally different without drops. LSU had several too.
Jefferson was running around screaming for a towel just so he could dry his hands between plays, because it was RAINING people. Why the coaches were so determined to throw as much as they did despite the rain was very confusing. We were killing them on the ground, especially on options and with Keiland running it.

If the DE's and Outside LB's can stop teams from constantly gaining the edge and turning the corner so easily then I will be very happy, but at that point the secondary and linebackers coverage skills will be tested, and I am not too sure more than one or two are up for that test.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but this is how i feel now.

One new trait I am not liking at all about this defense is how effectively and consistently opponents are running that edge.
And it may be perception, but does it seem like to anyone else that the defense's ball awareness is down this year? Sometimes on a running play the dude is 5 yards past the line before the secondary starts to key in on him.

I've seen multiple plays where the MLB is 10 yards off the guy he is covering, going over the middle. Shades of the Drop Linebacker.

They did a nice job containing the QB tonight 13 rushes -6 yards.
Yet the 2 running backs for vandy had 25 carries and 124 yards. Those little speed backs like you mentioned are getting to the edge. They just seem faster than our defense and Florida is filled with those types of guys.

THIS MAYBE UNFAIR I AM GRADING THE D AFTER THE UF GAME.BY THEN THEY WOULD HAVE PLAYED GOOD BAD AND AVERAGE TEAMS.DID WE IMPROVE OR MATCHUP BETTER WITH VANDYS OFFENSE.

So far Defense grade B and moving up. While the teams we've played aren't upper tier these same types of team were rolling up yardage and pts. on us last year.
