It seems we are moving further and further away from the days of pressuring the entire offense and dictating tempo to the other team. I miss the days of when we had DJ Shockley on the run for his life like in 03.

Man to man leaves to many young players on islands by themselves, suseptable to the big play.

We have the talent and the ablity to get the talent we need to play Man to Man, and thats why we should. Its the best way to play d.

I think alot of it depends on the team we are playing.

another factor that hasn't been brought up is when you play man against a running QB it often gives them tons of running room when they escape.

Good point there as well, it is all in the offense you are playing against. If it is a pocket passer, no problem.

Perhaps this has been discussed, but there may have been an additional rationale for playing a great deal of zone against UW. In man to man coverage, it is easy for the opposing WR's and TE's to run defenders off the line of scrimmage, which leaves huge gaps for a mobile QB to exploit. It is much harder to contain a running QB in man coverage. Conversely, in zone, there are always a given numbers of players within ten yards of the LOS. Maybe we played zone against UW to limit Locker's scrambling ability.

Yes I forgot we have the linbackers that have the speed to spy the qb imo.

That very much hampers the defense if the quarterback is a runner.

You and I should become co-coordinators like Malleveto. We think alike. We'd have the # 1 D in the land

If it were up to the rant the Tigers would bring a sellout blitz on every play and give up 80 yard passes every other down. But hey, we'd get some sacks

how many seasons did we truly play a lot of man coverage? i don't believe saban always had the players for man coverage. maybe our corners are just not ready yet. they are young.
