RS returning Kickoffs and Punts?

He is a whirlwind in the open field, did he ever return kicks in High School? Never saw any video of him returning kicks.

Don't think or know if we will, but just can't wait to see this guy gets his hands on the ball anytime-anywhere in a college game!!

Punts - yes. We haven't been great there since Skylar. Buster did ok in '06. Need to find our best man and leave him in.

KO - ?

I don't want to see it and I don't think we will. Shepard is too valuable as a dual-threat QB of the future right now. Should he move, full-time to a skill position, either RB, WR or hybrid, then maybe.

If our best "athlete" (and that very well may be Russell Shepard on this team, or the 2010, or 2011) is a QB, even the third-string QB, I do not want him out there on KR/PR teams.

It's a philosophical thing. Michael Vick and Vince Young didn't return kicks and punts in college. Russell Shepard shouldn't either. If and when he moves, full time to a RB/WR (or hell, defense), I will withdraw my objection to his participation as a return man.

That would be awesome to see RS get injured returning punts and kickoffs. I can't think of a better way to utilize his abilities. Really?

What, there is no way he gets hurt lining up at running back, quarterback, or reciever? If he is not the #1 or #2 qb put him back for kickoff returns. Get the ball in his hands so he can make something happen.

Yes, a few times (once in that game that was on ESPNU). But nothing that made the highlights.

Technically you are right. It's Division I football. You can get hurt at anytime on the field. I just can't help though, but to think back to former N.Y. Giants cornerback, Jason Seahorn who ended up tearing an ACL and missing an entire season several years ago because the Giants experimented with him at kickoffs. You don't want to increase the risk of him getting hurt by using him as a return man, IMHO.

So are his chances greater at being hurt by returning kicks/punts or playing WR/RB/QB in the SEC?

I'm not certain, but i'd guess there have been a lot more injuries to WR's/RB's than there have been to PR/KR

and if trindon holliday can return kicks/punts, why couldn't shep?

can you even think of the last time a PR/KR got hurt in a LSU game?

kick offs- nah, much too violent for a guy like him.

That doesn't tell the whole story. WRs/RBs/QBs line up many many times more per game than a KR/PR.

KR are one of the most dangerous plays in a football game for multiple reason. If you broke down the chance for someone to get injured on a per snap basis for each type of play KR and less so PR would probably be near or at the top.

Trindon isn't going to play QB ever and I think it is obvious Miles/Crowton trust him for anything except gimmicks.

think of it like a car wreck.

if youre going 30 mph and hit a parked car = no big deal

head on collision with 2 cars going 30 mph = someone probobly just died.

You cant really make that comparison...shep is faster and more shifty than those guys...true they are all more or less "dual threts"...but are those guys playing WR and RB too...no. So you cant throw shep in their with the those two
