you're chances of survival would probably be a lot better if you have antibodies built up against the flu... right V?
Pretty much.
Even if it mutates, the whole damn virus won't mutate. So there will be some aspect for your immune system to key on for a response.

of course they have made medical advances, but we're still VERY susceptible to getting very sick from this virus because our bodies aren't used to it.

And FWIW, this is something I just found out:
They are not recording active transmission as of now so it isn't all bad...but the main thing separating us from 1918 from modern medicine as far as viruses go are antivirals.
Of the 4 flu antivirals, swine flu is resistant to 2 of them, resistance to a third (Tamiflu) is building, leaving only one drug in the doctor's arsenal.

WHO has also been notified of 12 cases of oseltamivir resistant virus. These isolates have a mutation in the neuraminidase (referred to as H275Y) that confers resistance to oseltamivir, though the viruses remain sensitive to zanamivir

Only if Obama gets his way.
But luckily the final (Relenza) has shown no resistance by any strain of flu period.

People die from the flu every year. The gov't has scared everyone into thinking this swine flu is some deadly epidemic.
It's the fricking flu. A handful will die as they do every year.

the propofol comment was in regard to MJ...
that'll change eventually.
nature always finds a way.

also, be aware that he has a very limited understanding of flu viruses and has pretty much no clue as to what he is talking about

so when the CDC states that over 90,000 people could die from H1N1 this flu season, they are lying?
Meh...the garden-variety flu kills ~40k annually. Plus, as is always the case with these projections, the emphasis should be on the world "could".

well sure, but there are being grim with these projections because H1N1 hasn't really adapted to our DNA yet, it seems.
that's why our population is going to be so vulnerable to it.

Nah....they are being grim to justify themselves/cover their arse.
They don't want hundreds of thousands dead 6 months from now and having fingers pointed at them screaming "WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN US!"

I'm not sure that I completely understand your sentence, but I'm not of the opinion that even a projection of 90k deaths is "grim". It's certainly not good news...but not worthy of the hysteria generated so far either.

Absolutely. It's a defensive position.

In this strain of swine flu, pretty much the entire virus has never infected a human until now. So NO ONE has an immune response to it. This is very important...even if you assume mortality/hospitalization rates the same as the "regular flu," the sheer number of people infected if there is no vaccination would overwhelm the health care system

This is total complete bullshite. People have shown immune responses to this virus. The only thing that will overwhelm our health care system is passage of the Obama health plan.
Wanna know the real threat to health in the US. That is it.
