A friend of mine who lives in the Memphis area watched the Olive Brach vs East HS (Memphis) game on local cable Friday Night. He said that the announcers talked about the Big Olive Branch Offensive Linemen, and who they were interested in Recruiting wise. Here's what the announcers said.

Damien Robinson-AU,Bama,MSU,TN
Shun Coleman-AU commit but listed wanted to visit MSU,Bama, and TN
Eric Lawson-listed he was hearing from MSU,AU,TN,and USM
Keshaun Shipp-listed he was hearing from MSU,Memphis,Ark,AU

I have read on here often how LSU is getting Damien Robinson the 6'8" 330lb 5* recruit, but if the TV commentators are correct it looks like LSU isnt in his top 4. I have been hearing all along he is probabally Alabama bound, but then again I dont know. Recruiting is a werid thing.

I've never heard LSU was in super shape with him

He seems like one of several guys we're recruiting, but I don't think anyone really believes we're in the lead for him

You must have not seen the thread from a few weeks ago talking about recruits that would complete LSU's 2010 class. Everybody's list that I saw included Robinson.

BTW my buddy who watched him play on TV said that he is a prospect and has a ways to go, but you know the saying "You cant teach size" and Robinson has tons of size.

I did not see that thread I guess..and I can't say what others opinions are, but I've just never really heard a strong buzz about him coming to LSU

What has he come out and said that would make one confident about LSU's chances? I haven't heard or read anything that made me feel like we were in it to win it

2010 OT in Mississippi

OT National Ranking: #8 Damien Robinson
(Olive Branch HS)
Olive Branch, MS 6-8/330 Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee

OT National Ranking: #38 Shun Coleman
(Olive Branch HS)
Olive Branch, MS 6-7/275 Committed to Auburn

OT National Ranking: #43 Wes Rea
(Harrison Central HS)
Gulfport, MS 6-5/290 Florida State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Stanford, Tennessee

OT National Ranking: #63 Demarco Cox
(Yazoo City HS)
Yazoo City, MS 6-8/300 Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State

Top OG in Mississippi

OG National Ranking: #76 Eric Lawson
(Olive Branch HS)
Olive Branch, MS 6-7/330 Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee

Yep...Mississippi and Olive Branch in particular are LOADED!

But, I don't think LSU lands any of them because they are in northern MS (Olive Branch and Yazoo City that is, not Gulfport) and geography plays a very important role in recruiting. It is the trump card in most cases (but not all) because the recruit want's his family to be able to come to all the games and go home "relatively" easily and often.

That is not always the case, but it is most of the time for these obvious reasons. LSU has done very well under Miles and Saban in overcoming this geographical trend. But, I don't think LSU will be able to buck the averages with Robinson. I hope so, but am not counting on it since Robinson's choices are very, very geographically based.

UTenn., Ole Miss, MSU, and Bama are much, much closer than Baton Rouge.

FWIW the O-lineman from Gulfport (Harrison Central) Wes Rea has committed to Mississippi State for baseball and has no intentions to play college footbal, and Yazoo City OL Demarco Cox played his first HS football game this past friday, he has committed to play basketball at Ole Miss, and said he will play a year of basketball and then see if he is interested in playing both football and basketball.

Great info...and with MS loaded with such OL talent...it sure does hurt Ole Miss, MSU, and Southern Miss that such talent is playing two other sports over football. And, if Robinson goes to UTenn. or Bama, then MSU, Ole Miss, and USM Football teams land only 1 of the 5 of these!

What's your take on that? Nutt seems to be in the hurt locker in recruiting compared to Orgeron?

I think that those guys choosing a sport other than football hurts both State and Ole Miss. Other than the Olive Branch tri, this is a VERY DOWN year for MS HS O-linemanm because its believed that none of the Olive Branch guys will go to State or Ole Miss. State and Ole Miss only have one OL commit and they are both from out of state.

As for Nutt's recruting, my Ole Miss friends keep saying his strategy is to not get many early commits in hope of them having a big season as many people are predicting them to have this year and then pick up a lot of recruits late in the game when they come for official visits in January and early February.

Another FWIW. I saw Mississippi's top RB and LSU recruit Nick Parker from South Panola this past friday, and was not very impressed in him at all. He got hit hard a couple of times and even fumbled, he was held to under 100 yds and only scored 1 TD which was with under 5 minutes to go in the game to make it 38-0. Im not sure if he is SEC feature back caliber.

Also watched Steve McNair Jr last night who plays for Oak Grove HS out of Hattiesburg, and I think somebody is gonna get a Player if they can get his signature on their schoalrship offer. He played WR, Safety, and returned punts and Kicks. He is a stud athelte.

I agree with you. Some of the other posters that live near Olive Branch say that it's between Bama and LSU. I just take it with a grain of salt.

That's frankly just impossible so you must have been looking at a "dream list" of recruits that fans would like to sign. I've never seen ONE single post on this site that predicted that LSU would sign Robinson but I have seen a ton stating that he is a long shot at best. My guess is that you are confusing this board with a Bama board.

the only mention of him on lists that I noticed with any knowledgeable posters mnetion him as being 1 of only a couple of OL prospects that we would consider taking giving our numbers situation. FYI...tv and radio announcers rarely have any knowledge of consequence when it comes to recruits

I was pretty confident about Damien Robinson a few weeks ago, but not as much now. Alabama will only take one more offensive linemen, and we're hearing more about OT Arie Kouandjio from Maryland.

If this is true, maybe Mississippi State might have an outside shot at Robinson.
If he came to State he would be a 4 year starter guarenteed.
