Brees in Fantasy League

I have the second pick in one of my leagues and was thinking about taking Brees. He put up 184 more points than Michael Turner last year, and more than 230 points than A. Peterson. Why does everyone get hung up on picking running backs first?
Thoughts???

The dropoff of elite rb's is probably bigger than the dropoff of the qb's.

I think you are Coockoo for Cocoa Puffs for even thinking of taking a QB at #2.

If you have the 2nd pick you are going to select Peterson MJD or Turner.
The difference between Brees and David Garrard year (who you can select with your last pick if you want) was 100pts
The difference between Deangelo Williams and the number 15 back that would probably be your most likely pick in the 2nd round was 100 pts.
So you can use your 1st rounder and 15th rounder or you can use your 1st rounder and 2nd rounder and have the same relative performance. Your choice.

seriously
but in some fantasy leagues i guess you're right.
the league i'm in if you don't get and elite qb like top 4 then its better to wait and stack up on wr and rb. qb in my league get 5 bonus points for 250 yards and 5 more for 350 not to mention 1 pt for 20 yards passing and 6 point per td

Depends on the league. If your league scores QBs 1 point per 10 yds and 6 for tds, like my league, then taking a QB early is actually a very good idea. Last year, Brees went first and average over 45 points a game, where garrard probably only averaged close to twenty, maybe. I dont have the exact numbers, but I would think it would not even be close. The problem at number two is the running backs that will be available in round two. Williams will not be there. If you get lucky and Jacobs falls, or in early round three, go after Westbrook or Portis if they fall.

This year, I think it is very important to go after receivers early. The "dropoff" after the second tier of receivers is huge and you can still get capable backs to start in the 6, 7, or 8 round (in a ten team league).

You read that article and are repeating what you read today!

Thanks I will take all this into consideration.

It depends how the scoring is set up in your league. I am in a leauge where rb td are 6 and passing is 4; therfore having an elite RB weighs more. Another league im in has passing and rushing td's at 6, so Im taking Brees with the first overall pick, and get a top 10 RB on the way back...... to me the scoring should be the first question to ask yourself

What article are you talking about? That was no article, just a few years of fantasy football experience and a lot of research done this year. My wife and I just had our first child, so I have had a lot of time to look at players and teams and the way drafts have been falling this year.
Please reference the article you are talking about, I actually would like to read it.

I doubt he read an article, thats pretty much common sense....wr's are always grouped together after the top tier is gone

I fully agree with Alley. I am picking 2 in a ten team league and I AM looking at the option of taking Brees at 2, if he doesn't go 1.

Insert any position with that notion.

Common sense is not so common.

He went 2nd in one of my leagues. Then again the worst player the past 6 seasons is the one that drafted him. The guy has never finished higher than 8th out of 12 teams. Brees was the #1 player in our league last year by a good margin though so
. I would take either Forte or MJD with the 2nd pick. I took MJD with the 3rd in that same draft.

12 team draft... NO. But you can still get good value in the second and third rounds in a ten team draft.

I'm taking Forte in my league at #2
