i think period pieces normally do. they didn't set it in the present, it was set in the past. this makes it hold up slightly better than something that makes it appear as though its current.
also, the special effects are minimal and non integral to the story. Finally, all the coen brothers movie hold up well but this one is unique. I have watched it 20+ times and still laugh out loud.

Terminator 2 still holds up extremely well. Even the special effects do for the most part, which is amazing

I love the bowling scene with the Gypsy Kings version of Hotel California. I could watch that 4 minute clip everyday and not get tired of it.
