Caught the midnight show. I liked it until the middle when it became more of an action flick than a drama. What the movie ended up focusing on didn't interest me as much as the overall treatment of the aliens by the humans. It was an amazing concept with subpar execution, IMHO.

That being said, most of the people in the theater seemed to love it. My negative opinion of the second half could possibly be attributed to the dipshits sitting next to me yelling "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN" every five minutes while eating chili dogs.

For those that have seen it, is there some stupid social message they want you to get out of it? I sure hope not, because it looks like an entertaining flick. I don't mind a small social message as long as I'm not being constantly hit over the head with it.

All the reviews are saying that the message of the District 6 massacre is fairly subtle and he doesn't get preachy about it, which was my only real fear for this film. Even if the critics didn't like it, they all agree that it was subtle.

My understanding is the film is essentially a metaphor for the apartheid system in South Africa.

the real question is there a third party behind the scenes (russia) stirring up hatred of apartheid in the popular media and college campuses of other countries to further isolate and vilify the south african government so they can quietly move in with their marxist regime?

Wow..did I say that out loud?

Just watched it. Great movie, definitely worth seeing. A good mix of Action (cool weaponry), Drama, science fiction and social comentary without being in your face about it. Decent character developement, kept me interested throughout.
