All these experts think its just crazy to get a qb high, and ive always wondered why. Looking at my league's 2008 totals, the top is filled with qbs, some hardly above average, while the top rusher, DeAngelo Williams, is #11. I don't know what the standard league rules are, but i usually play: all TD's=6, 20 pass yds=1, 10 rushing/rec yds=1
In that system the qb gets more points a pretty good majority of the time. In my opinion, a good running game would be about 100 yds, a TD or two. A good passing game would be about 250 yds, 2 or three TDs. Of course it depends on the player, but they had Drew Brees (#1 qb) ranked 15, while rbs like Matt Forte are in the top 10.
Can anyone help me understand this or give some other insight? I appreciate it
(Also, interesting side note, they had Pierre Thomas #24 and Reggie in the 40s. I thought that was weird as high as pierre was and low as reggie was. They also had Matt Ryan #83, which i thought was ridiculously low.)

If you can't get one of the top 3 or 4 QBs early, your best bet is to wait. Why would you draft a QB in the 3rd rd when you can get the same caliber QB 5-6 rds later? By doing that you can stock up on RBs and WRs in the first half of the draft. You only start 1QB, while most leagues start at least 2RBs and at least 2Wrs.

+1. It's all about seeing where the drop-offs are in value for each group i.e. QB's RB's etc. Go to Antsports.com to look at as many mock drafts as possible. They are usually dead on.

this is the main reason
but the way that your league scores, I wouldn't have a problem drafting Brees, Manning or Brady above some of those 2nd tier RB's in the bottom of first or second round. It's so tricky now, because with so many RB by committees out there, you can now wait to draft RB's as well. My philosophy is prioritize the top RB's that don't share time, next are those QB's I mentioned and then the top WR's. In a PPR league, I put some of those WR's in the mix of round 1 as well (Johnson and Fitzgerald mainly)

In most leagues that I play in, passing tds will only get you 4 points. If you were to get 6 points for passing tds then it makes much more sense to draft a stud qb early (Brady, Brees, Manning)

Thanks for the help guys. I'm seeing it clearly now, although i found out my league also starts 2 QBs, so that would make it the most important position, it seems.

jesus....in that system you do what it takes to get Manning, Brees, or Brady.
300 yards and 2tds, 1int could be an average game for one of those guys. Good for 25 points.
120 total yards and a TD could be average for a great RB. good for 18 points.
your league is VERY QB friendly, and a great QB will prob put you in the playoffs.

Fantasy QBs - there are a select few at the top, and then a whole bunch who are average.
RBs & WRs there is a greater difference between Top tier RB/WR and average ones.
