Have any two teams from the same conference, who are conference rivals (of sorts) that play each other every year, been so dominant in any such timeframe in modern college football?....For that matter any 2 teams period? (Army-Notre Dame way back maybe? Oklahoma-Nebraska? Michigan-Ohio St?)

I don't think any such phenomenon has ever occurred.

As we build towards 10-10-09, will this epic battle on Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium be the most anticipated game in recent college football history (assume both are undefeated and in top 5)? With the winners of the last 4 out of 6 crystal trophies, as well as the 2006 Heisman winner, and possible 2009 Heisman leading contender on the field at the same time, that is a treat to await !

Geaux Tigers !

The media has a lot to do with this. Imagine how they would be billing this if it were UCLA and USC..or Michigan-Ohio State, or UT-OU...

Building the LSU brand is big in getting us additional monies from advertising and apparel/merchandising...note the new Powerade commercial for instance, with the LSU players show twice in uniform and the other scene that is in the LSU football facility all in one commercial...

They bill the OU-TX, and UGA-FL games each and every year, yet the LSU-UF series is the most notable in all of sports at this timeframe. Not even the Yankees and Red Sox can clain such dominance in such a short timespan between just 2 teams...

This is an EPIC series, and should be billed as such if both teams stay unblemished between now and then (of course, that is a tall order).

And yes, I agree that they should not be hawking it as such at that level NOW, but at some level this SHOULD BE pointed out NOW as a possible scenario....If it does pan out, imagine what the tickets for the game will go for !

I say if we take care of business through the UGA game, then it will take on a whole new dimension when the Gators come to town. It would then, most likely, be a monumental showdown of the top team versus a likely top 5, and certainly top 10, team.

If we are undefeated through that point, then it would almost certainly mean as well that JJ and our defense are playing well, giving the media something else to hype other than Tebow, though he is their favorite guy to hype these days.

Gotta have something to sell, folks. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

I have been saying this ever since UF won the nation championship last year.

This is going to be the biggest game in the past decade, hands down if both teams are undefeated. If history is any indication, either of these teams will still have a shot at a national title regardless of the winner of the game. However, this game pits the last 3 national champions in one game. Consider College Gameday a done deal.

If memory serves me, Nebraska and Chokelahoma did it earlier:

1994 Nebraska
1995 Nebraska
1997 Nebraska
2000 Oklahoma

I am just going from memory...

They're already hyping this game up like mad. Anytime they talk about UF they bring up this game as their biggest challenge and one of the best games of the year.

I just don't want LSU to be hitching it's wagon to Florida for purposes of getting more publicity. LSU needs to get publicity for being LSU, not for being the little sister of the Gators.

LSU-Florida is the greatest football rivalry in my book lol. I like watching those 2 teams go at it more then any other two.

Can't wait. It's definitely my favorite game every year, aside from SEC Champ, or NC. It should be a good one.

I just hope CBS and Mr. Verne are not calling it.

Under the scenario posted above,(both teams undefeated) it will certainly be CBS and VL calling the game.

You do realize that ESPN just gave the SEC the richest TV contract in history - $2.25 billion over 15 years.
