I'm kinda worried about having him starting at middle linebacker. I just finished watching the LSU vs. Auburn replay and saw him miss the Auburn RB twice on the same run. He had him at the line of scrimmage and completely whiffed and then chased him down the field 10 yards only to whiff again. That and watching him in the Arkansas game two years ago makes me a little worried about his tacking skills. We gotta have somebody in the middle who can make some plays.

P.S. I realize that Jacob's a good kid and he's done some good things this spring and that he's very athletic. I trust Chavis and Miles though, so I'm sure they will have the best players on the field when it counts. Here's wishing for the best from Cutrera and all of the other Tigers!

i bet we will be seeing a lot formations where only 1 or 2 LB's are in the game: Coleman and Riley

Until we start recruiting and actually signing 5 star linebackers, we will continue to worry our asses off every time the ball is snapped. We get the best DB's in the South, some of the best DT's in the Nation, but for some reason, we are not known as LinebackerU. Maybe Chavis will change all that?

well since our DC doubles as one of the better LB coaches in the game, I'm trusting Chavis' instincts on this one

Come on, all the good shite in that game and we have to start a thread about Cutrera.

Riley was a beast in that game, Coleman was pretty good, Shep was adequate. Hawkins was good. etc.

I'd rather have Cutrera in the middle than Sheppard.

He makes decent reads and seems to have plenty of opportunities to make plays...then he just completely whiffs or starts running at a angle, only to have someone leave him...

Yea, write me down as worried too. Hes had a lot of reserve duty in his career and nowhere has he looked particularly good at it. If he can improve his tackling technique, he'd be pretty solid for us I think. But gd has he missed some tackles in his career here. Hes coming into his, what, 5th year? Its kinda unsettling hes had this problem since he first sniffed the field at LSU.

And you could tell as much when they lined him up there.

Sheppard definitely can be a MLB. Dude is up to 240 lbs or so, and is slower than many of Chavis' OLBs.

I wouldn't be shocked if he got a lot of PT at MLB this year.
