Ken Stabler Why Not HOF?

This is in reply to SEC thread on Derick Thomas but didnt wan to hijack that one so here it is.
Stabler was the face of the Radiers in his era. He was a Super Bowl MVP and record holding quarterback for the franchise. His HC(Madden), WR(Belientnikoff) and TE(Casper) are in but not him as the QB. How absurd does this seem? I realize that Snake had and has pletty of off the field skeletons but so did others. Lawrence Taylor was a first ballot member, the cocain was not an issue for voters, so dont use off the field behavior if on the field performance merits the hall. Namath and Lynn Swann are two HOF members that show that stats are not all that insures enshrinement. Stabler is iconic as the face of the Raiders as well as a championship winning player. I've heard that his relationship with the media was not good, so he must have really pissed the media off back in his day. Still his playing is HOF stuff so put him in.

I met him at an autograph signing in New Orleans. He was drunk as a piss ant. He couldn't even mumble right.

Namath was given the benefit of the doubt, in my opinion due to his charismatic personality and the victory guarantee before the Super Bowl. Swann won 4 Super Bowls with pretty good stats to go along with it although I think Stallworth was a better all-around receiver. Stabler's rocky relationship with the press and bad-boy reputation have hurt him. I don't think he sustained his play over a long enough period of time to warrant being a HOFer. Just my two cents.

I guess wrong on that one, who was it against the vikings. Bilentnikoff

Stabler was first team All Pro only once, and is not a top 30 career guy for any of the career passing numbers,, except for interceptions.
He's also FAR from an icon on the level of Broadway Joe and wasn't nearly as dominant as LT.
Lynn Swann should not be in the HOF, so i don't want to correct a mistake by making another.

Show one clip of the raiders of that ere that does not include Stabler. If someone says 70's Raiders he is the first image that comes to mind.
He is the icon of those championship teams.
Yes he was nowhere near as dominant as LT, but dont vote with a double standard.

Swann's career stats suck. They arnt even close to John Stalworth and he almost didnt make it.
Swann is in for one game only SUPer Bowl X.

yes, imo. his numbers aren't great at all, but he was THE FACE for a long time.

Why not???
only played in 115 career games
averaged 47 yards receving per game
never had more than 880 yards in a season
was never top 3 in a season in receiving yards or catches
1st team all pro only once
Swann was fortunate to be on a dominant team. He was very good, but not HOF material.

are you sitting here with a straight face and telling me that Kenny Stabler is as well known as Joe Namath?

Can someone explain how a HC, WR, and TE make it but not the QB?

Falling backwards into the endzone against the Cowboys to give Dallas the win over NO. It was truly Eli-esque.
Keep him out of the HOF.
Keep him out of the HOF.

uh, b/c they are all more deserving?
Casper and Biletnikof were more dominant relative to their peers than Stabler. Madden has a ring, and then went on to become arguably the most well known football broadcaster in history.
