"Bates is average"

I attended St. Pauls HS in La. when i was a young lad. The current school Houston Bates plays for. I have been calling everyone for a month now trying to get the low down on this kid.
A buddy of mine has a nephew currently on the team with Bates that told me this
"Bates is average. Nobody on the team thought LSU would even consider him. He is slow and not that big. He works hard but thats about it."
So i was worried envy could be leaking from the kids mouth so i asked if he liked the kid.
"One of my better friends on the team I just think he got really lucky to get an offer."

im not saying he is not average in an LSU sense of the word, but he is easily the best player on their defense and probably their team

Well, I was content with letting Miles, Chavis, Stud, etc evaluate talent........BUT, if the 16 yo nephew of your old HS buddy thinks this is a bad pick, the kid must SUCK.

St. Pauls has a great looking DT. Might be a few inches short, but looks good.

bates gave chris faulk fits last year, he has great explosiveness off the edge. the only thing average about him is his size and speed IYAM

understand that was a lil' iffy on posting for that reason. Kid seemed to know his sh**. Follows recruiting and so on. Just said he has seen better players in his own district which happens to be a weak one. Made the post because i said i would. Do what you want with it. Bet its more inside info then you have been able to obtain. Same team, same defense, good friend. Guess he doesn't know anything about him.

also bates was switching inside/outside all game against northshore, just tore their line up. let me see if i can get the stats or quotes from that game
