I'm a longtime fan of the Civ series, and I've really enjoyed the Total War series of games. Empire: Total War is the latest and is the most far-reaching in scale. Give that one a shot. It's really well-done.

Halo Wars is a new one, never played it, but ive also never really been into those kind of games

For strategy in general, the Warcraft and Starcraft games are obvious favorites.

New Total War? I loved all the other ones. What is this one about?

Empire: Total War is about the Napoleonic age. Muskets, cannons and sailing ships. It's pretty cool!
One of the great new features is that you can actually fight the naval battles now. You can do 20 vs. 20 ship fleet actions!
Nothing is cooler than unleashing cannister shot on charging infantry, though. It's just... evil.

I'll always love the replayability and simplicity of Age of Empires 2. All you basically did was build units and right click on shite to attack it but each civilization's special units and buildings and backstory made it really interesting (if you like history).

Definitely a must play.

Starcraft is still one of my all-time favorites, especially with Brood War expansion. Protoss Dark Archon was awesome. Nothing beats the surprised expression on your opponents face when you whoop their butt with their own technology you stole with mind control.

I recently bought the Civ IV box set with all the expansion packs. I still can't win past the 3rd difficulty level, but it is a ton of fun.

sweet ill have to check it out. The game Imperial Glory is a Napoleonic game similiar to old Total War games. It is overall not as good but it has naval battles (crappy ones, but naval battles nonetheless) and a reputation for each country and the world. If you get a country reputation high enough you can get them to join you.

we always used to run shite on the zone network, then it went to shite.

Right now I am enjoying Sins of a Solar Empire.
Think Civilization meets Homeworld

I have the Civ Chronicles set too. I mostly play II...it's just the one I enjoy the most. I've played some III and a little IV.

Any of these civilization games are on the PS3?

I've played Civ I-III and II is definitely the best
I lost so many hours of my life to that game... and I don't regret them

If they are, then it is probably like the 360 game and is so watered down to be worthless compared to the series. Just see if you can run Civ4...it isn't a new game or computer intensive even compared to games of its own era.

I dunno about that... Each map in SoaSE have a preset number of planet systems that you can build around and colonize... Civilization has an open map where you can colonize anywhere there's a piece of land. I'd think SoaSE of more like The game of RISK + Homeworld.

yeah, really. I think you can run civ 2 on a 33 mhz 486... and that's not exaggerating.

Civilization Revolutions is I think a strictly ps3 game. It may be on xbox but it's not on cpu. It is actually my favorite of the bunch. It isn't as deep though because it is meant for online play.

Its on PS3, XBox 360, and DS. The only problem is you can only play multiplayer online. The game offline is single player only but there is a decent amount of DLC such as maps and additional wonders. Fun but not as fun as Civ 4 or Age of Empires 2 on computer which can be really fun when played with a large group using a big hd tv and wireless keyboard/mouse combo or via a lan party.
