I realize they have to win tonight, and I think they will in dominate fashion.
I know most will say the larson/furniss year, but i'm measuring the whole team not just hr's which this team has its share of also. I just can't remember seeing a more balanced team than this one. The defense lately has been incredible, and I know he wasn't great last night, but Coleman's season is as good as any in history. I could go on, but well am I crazy for thinking this?

They're up there, but Mouton's year was pretty dirty.

All 5 championship teams and this team have a legit argument at the best team ever. 96 being the weakest champ but still very good. Very hard to argue for or against all championship teams.

As far as Coleman's season, it's right up there. I think Peever in 92, McDonald in 89 and Tallet in 2000 are all right up there as well.

Schultz, Sirotka, Ogea, Laxton, Keisler...got some huge names in there...Coleman's not quite there IMO, but he's close.

are you nuts? Coleman most definitely belongs in that group! He's 14-2, first team All-American, SEC Pitcher of the Year....

I would argue that he's had the third greatest season ever by an LSU pitcher...right behind McDonald '89 and Peever '92...

What makes you think that? Not being an arse but just curious what you saw last night that would make you so sure of dominating win.

Statistically, his numbers warrant that. But he's pitching against the -3 bats. Gotta remember that. Some of the others I mentioned didn't have that luxury and still put up some salty numbers.

Big Ben had 202 strikeouts in 89. Can't get more dominating then that

it's not so much what i saw last night, that i've seen all my life. more of a feeling i guess. no question last night was a great game. i just think tonight may turn into a slugfest, getting deeper into rotations etc., and i think that favors lsu.

I'd say UT is demoralized. They hit 5 hr and the pitcher had 10k's and they still lost.

1991 team was the best I have watched. Don't think they were behind once in the CWS and no one touched them.

Chad Ogea, Paul Byrd and closer... "Greene" maybe all had good ML careers.

This team is similiar to the 2000 and 1997 teams.

Mike Sirotka was the 3rd starter on that team

It could be just as easily argued that this would be the worst of the 6 as the best. Either way, it doesn't matter in the slightest bit.

I don't know if it's the best team. That's a hard thing to judge. But this team might have the best balance of any LSU team...pitching, clutch hitting, power and defense. They might very well be the best defensive team LSU's had. A lot of those NC teams kicked the ball around pretty good, but they made up for it with the bats and pitching.

there's a poll on nola.com about this, but for some reason 97 was left off.
