10 yrs probation and 1000 hrs of community service is nothing to sneeze at considering some dumb frick jumped out in front of him on the fricking interstate/highway.

He's only in trouble because he has a little bit too much to drink. But the end result of what happened would have been the same if he was not intoxicated and donte probably wouldn't have been in any legal trouble. fricking dude was on the interstate.

For running an illegal gambling operation without greasing the right palms.

Chad you're absolutely right, but the fact that he had alchohol in his system changes everything.

Besides, it was the families choice to take the money instead of having DS serve significant jail time.

Does anybody know whether the deceased was under the influence? It does matter.

Just goes to show what money does for people. Had any of us average guys committed vehicular manslaughter/killed a guy and didn't have millions to throw at the family we would be up shits creek.

chad504, i really agree with you on this one...the crime is serious and donte deserves to be punished, but he did not intend to kill anyone. He got in the car with too much to drink and a dude was in the middle of the street-not in a crosswalk. A lot of you have probably drank or know someone who has drank and drove. This really could happen to anyone. Vick's crime was much more malicious-he was involved with intentional harm to dogs. I think donte deserves a tougher sentence, but i don't think it's as easy as sayin "he killed a dude" so that's it

Drake20....by you saying he was in the middle of the street / interstate does that make him fair game to hit??? Had he been on a crosswalk would you feel stronger about him getting a harsher sentence?

it depends...maybe. that was not a great point on my part.

if donte had had 2 less beers, he probably would not have been charged with anything.

i know someone who was sober and hit someone while driving. it was not her fault, he rode his bike across the street at the last second. if she had had too much too drink, and the same thing happened..it would be hard for me to call her a terrible person and a murderer. i'm in college. i know a lot of people who drink and drive. this situation could happen to many college students. it's a big problem, and most don't give this kind of situation enough thought (they should).
