Sorry , but a baseball player does not fit that definition. He may be considered a clutch hitter or a good hitter under pressure, but not anywhere near a hero. I didn't realized there were so many democrats on here...lol

I'm somewhere in the middle. I think it was a sensationalist headline and the use of "heroes" was overly melodramatic. On the other hand, I think the word can be used to describe people other than the guys who died storming the beach at Normandy.

I use this term very rarely, but Schimpf is the greatest american hero ever. IMO.
