Considering the scouting report on ESPN, apparently not. This is the best defensive team in history after all.

But, thinking about it, this LSU team, pre-season ranked No.1 never had "reaching" Omaha as its goal. So maybe it's better to play Rice, a team that arguably should have hosted a super regional, in Baton Rouge (in the best two out of three) than at Rosenblatt.

It was not a fair draw for either team, but if you want to prove your the best you got to beat anyone they throw at you. If we lose this weekend, we're not the best.

Truthfully ,, whoever wins I think this is the toughest team either will face between now and the championship series

Both RICE and lsu are all around better than Fullerton and fla State although both have strengths.

and both RICE and lsu are heads a shoulders better than louiville, ole miss ,Virginia or arky.

But,, sooner or later you gotta beat a damn good team,, this time you just got to do it twice even BEFORE u play in Omaha

LSU is ranked first and Rice 6th. They houldn't be meeting until Omaha.

That's what I mean though, isn't it better to get them in Baton Rouge -- with all crazies???

We probably have the toughest match-up in the Super Regionals. However, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

In short... no.

And I realize that the cliches will come raining down from the heavens... "you have to beat the best to be the best" and so on. But the simple answer is no. A matchup in the Super Regionals of arguably (and I think accurately) Top 5 teams is unfair.

With the depth and balance of both teams, this easily could have been the 3-game series in Omaha that decided it all.

if I were a coach (of either team) that's what I'd tell them.

I'd say this is your championship series right here.

If we get to Omaha, that's next season as far as I'm concerned and we'll draw up some new goals.

But, don't think of this as a playoff game. This is the championship.

Fair draw?

It's a super regional, not just a regional. There was no "draw."

Incidentally, 2nd place doesn't win anything in the CWS. Losing to Rice here at home or in Omaha doesn't make a difference. Just win and be done with it.

I'm just happy they split all the SEC schools into separate regionals whereby none would play each other until Omaha. Anyone notice if they did this for all the conferences?

Precisely the sort of cliche I was referencing.

The NCAA should seed the teams 1 thru 16 not just 1 thru 8.

The Supers are bullshite with all the local/close match up bullshite.

Post season play is all about playing teams from all over the country not just within driving distance.

Last year was outstanding with UCI coming across country to play us.

I agree. I was shocked when Rice was not paired with up with the Oklahoma regional, although I don't think Arkansas is a heckuva lot easier than LSU. It's complete garbage that this super regional exists. But that's out of hand now...time to play ball.
