Do Macklin, Welter and Muncie fit that role? I thought Chavis liked the Shaun Lewis/Corey Nelson types that were 6 foot 205.
With that said, is Mingo going to grow into a Defensive End?

Jerod Mayo and Al Wilson both weighed about 240

well i think if your able to get big speedy LBs, that's the way to go. I think mingo will stay at olb, that sounds intriguing. i myself have always been a huge fan of speed at LB either way.
to answer your question maclin fits thee role, not sure about muncie even though on some sites he's listed as a safety so he must have some speed, and welter is listed as running a 4.48 on rivals.

Welter
Recruited as an MLB. I don't think an MLB can only weigh 200 pounds and be effective in the SEC.
Edit: Welter also ran a 4.15 40 in my backyard on my laser timer.

Why? So he can sit on the bench at WDE behind Sam Montgomery for his LSU career?
He'll be a situational rush OLB.

well even though i agree with you on the fact that welter cannot be a mlb at 200 lbs. I have to think, 1 he's not going to be around 200 for too long once he gets into a college workout program, 2 he's prob going to be switched to olb, and 3 plenty of linebackers in chavis' system at tennessee were right around that size and did just fine.

yeah, i hope we reel in Maclin, he has that kinda size and speed, we've been missing on big lb recruits like that

"Welter, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker, is the Tigers' second in-state commitment. He joins tight end Nic Jacobs of Many as Louisiana players who have chosen LSU."

I didn't say that he was 200 pounds. I was saying that the original poster's comment was silly to contend that all our LB's should be 200 lbs and fast.
I knew Welter was a bigger guy, that's why I mentioned that he was recruited as an ILB.

Big and fast is good for us as well... Remember Mingo was a track star at his size, and with he and Maclin that would be 2 6'4 plus guys that both run at or sub 4.6... I think we'd all take that for future OLBs

In a recent article Welter talked about getting even bigger and not losing any speed.

Yeah, it wouldn't suprise me if he stepped onto campus at 6'2 235... He'll be in that Mayo size range in a small time frame

Do you think we'll take another MLB, like Chase Williams, since he's an athlete that could possibly play TE or FB if MLB didn't work out. I'm all about versitile athletes like Nick Jacobs
