When discussing the rotation for the weekend, Mainieri said, "I would guess we'd have Coleman available on Friday if we do that in case we want to use him out of the pen. Just take them one game at a time."

I took a lot of heat for this line of thinking

Well most disagreed with using him at that spot in the game, but even Mainieri says that he would not rule out using Coleman in relief. I thought that was the reason he sent Ranaudo to the mound on Saturday instead of Coleman (the availability of Coleman out of the pen). I was just pointing out that Coleman might be used out of the pen at some point this post-season. My opinion was why not in an extra-inning "marble" game.

Well, at various people have said Mainieri sucks too and could use a little help from Skip.

You are equating a 3 game series with a 4 team regional?

This is not the same thing. Jut because he can come out of the bullpen doesn't make this situation the same as the other situation.

No, you still are the dumbest poster ever especially since you took the above information and transferred it into what you think you wanted to do last week.

LSU had won game 1 of the regional using Ross, their #3 starter. On Saturday night they were in a tighter spot than a Friday night of a 3 game series. If they lost game 2, they had to win three more games without having their #3 starter available except for a 2 day rest Monday start. If they won game 2, they only had to win one more. Once LSU won game 2 vs. Baylor, the regional was over.

Disagree with my idea all you want, but how is putting your ACE OF THE STAFF, FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN, SEC PITCHER OF THE YEAR in the game a dumb idea. I was taken aback not that people disagreed, but with how "dumb of an idea" people thought that was.

Yeah but here is where your thought process goes wrong dumbass...........Ranaundo had pitched 8 innings of beauty and LSU HAS THE ALL TIME LEADER IN SAVES IN THE BULLPEN!

Oh ya Ott is an All-American too.

Coleman's job is to pitch a game............Ott's job is to pitch 2 innings.........

THATS THE DIFFERENCE.

Against depleted staffs we could have won twice on Sunday and then on Monday without Coleman if the move backfired. I don't think we can beat Rice on Saturday and Sunday if we use Coleman Friday and it fails.

I was also factoring Coleman's Super Regional and Omaha experience over Ott, who had never pitched in NCAA post-season before. Matty Ott did the job in 1-2-3 fashion.

So sue me.

I could see LSU using Coleman in relief on Friday to help secure a victory, then starting Ross on Saturday and Coleman on Sunday. However, you may be correct that using Coleman on Friday and LSU not winning could be tough to come back from.

1) If it isn't broke, don't fix it
2) Glad, you finally realized you are still the dumbest poster ever.

Thanks for explaining it to me. I was unaware of the circumstances.

I'm quite sure that you would have pulled Ranaudo when he had his problems in the 8th. So, in your mind, Coleman would have pitched 2/3rds of the 8th, the 9th at least with a decent shot of going to extras (as it did).

Because of that, he would have been unavailable on Sunday. And, if you lose that game, then you find yourself in a position of having to beat the #2 and a #3 (with a rested pitching staff) in the same day with no Coleman.

That's a lot of eggs to put into one basket for a team that is very capable of winning out of the loser's bracket with Coleman and a fresh Ott still available.

Nevertheless, equating the 4 team regional with a 3 game series is idiotic. But, go ahead and keep explaining it to us. Don't let the fact that 98% of the fans and Mainieri himself disagrees with you stop you.

why defend yourself so much to people that are never gonna give. i haven't seen one person that has agreed with you. cut your losses and leave it alone. thats what makes you the dumbest poster ever. try to redeem yourself later with a post worth the conversation.

Coleman possibly could have gotten out of the 8th with the lead in tact, and LSU could have won with him pitching only 1+ innings. The Texas reliever threw 2 innings on Friday, and 13 innings on Saturday. Coleman would not have been spent.

Whatever the case, the Tigers got a run and Ott closed the door. Now we're two games away from Omaha.

That's why we will use our regular weekend rotation...it worked all year, why change it now, other than the fact we found out a couple of weeks ago we can go up to at least 5 games with solid starters.

Put me down as someone who thinks pitching 2.2 innings on one day will usually affect a guy pitching 5+ innings on the next day.

I think it's ignorant to think you can throw a guy 2+ innings assuming he can start and last the very next day.
