I finally just saw it for the first time (Comcast on demand). Good movie. I didn't realize it came out in 92, I thought it was more like 97.
Good movie and a really good cast IMO.
What were your thoughts on A Few Good Men?

I love that movie.
Tom Cruise is much more believable as an actor than he is an actual human being.
The part that Jack Nicholson played was awesome.
I know this was said in a movie, but this really could not be more true.
This is gold. I don't think an actual Col in the Marine Core could have stated this any better.

quote:
Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

We do not have a Marine Core. And you'd be suprised what a bird Colonel used to be able to get away with.

It probably eased into my upper top 40, which is really good.

The plot, dialog and acting were just excellent.

My high school Marine Corp ROTC drill team would wax that drill team at the beginning of that movie. They were horrible. You could hear 10 different hands when they went from move to move. We were beaten emotionally when that happened.
Other than that...one of the best movies ever.

And I'm also a big Cruise and Nicholson fan...I don't know why I've been putting this movie off for so long.

I was a Jarhead when this movie came out and I never really liked it. There were just too many mistakes made. Especially at the end when the Marine saluted Tom Cruise in the courthouse. Marines don't salute uncovered and indoors. For those of you who were not in the military it may not seem like such a big deal. But ask any Marine.

quote:Agreed but my thought process was, it's still ultimately Hollywood, so you know they're gonna pull some bullshite and I was glad we got the regard we did. Plus, at it's heart, the hand salute is a sign of respect, aside from the letter of the law.

It took me years to realize that Lt. Col. Nathan R. Jessep was supposed to be a bad guy in the movie.

Best speach in any movie, anywhere, ever, period.

That drill team was not a real drill team and if they were their instructor needs work elsewhere. They were absolutely horrible. Their lines and dress were absolutely pathetic. Delayed cadence my arse, that was shite timing is what that was. Watch it again
And when I was in high school, 20 years ago, we were the number one ROTC drill team in the nation for 3 years running.

Watch the credits at the end of the movie again. It was a real drill team. It was the Texas A&M drill team, and I enjoyed their delayed cadence. It was pretty obvious also.
