Back in 1994, I remember when Hammond play Central for the 5A state Championship. That was a hell-of-a game. Although, Central won I was proud b/c Hammond kept it very close and entertaining the entire game. I think Central won by one run.

I went to that. Everyone was suprised by Hammond's performance. They were underdogs. Central had been exposed for not having as much pitching depth that year after one of their main pitchers was hurt and the other two ran out of inning eligibility. I believe one of the McClures was out in the playoffs as well as the center fielder that year. They used Weise the previous game against John Curtis.

(I think they were 4A in 1994. St. Amant won 5A that year)

Both these teams had probably 10 guys play college ball and 5 or 6 play some sort of professional sports afterwards.

I didn't say they did. Central was 4A back then. I remember those years pretty clearly, as I was pretty fascinated by Louisiana baseball. They beat John Curtis something like 15 to 0 in 4 innings. I also recall they had zero respect for hammond and were already ordering their championship rings once they trampled John Curtis.. that almost bit them in the arse.

PS, I witnessed a Central game where 8 different players hit home runs and a shutout was pitched. That's ridiculous. I was also there when the #2 (From Buffalo, NY) team in the nation came down to play Central in a double header (they were also supposed to play a team in Texas the next day) and they were beat badly both games. I believe had the internet been more developed back then and local media had the technology that it has now, that Central and St. Amant would have had serious national recognition back then.

They are more consistant, yes. I meant individual teams through a short period of time (1 to 4 years) though.
