Lots of people have been suspecting Sarah Chalke is the mother, but don't worry im sure there will be a twist next season.

i watched the episode again and in typical fashion for this show, they went through alot of trouble to make people think they revealed the mother but they made sure to stop short of actually saying it. The cast has recently gotten raises and the show has been renewed until the 2012/13 season so there's absolutely no way that they revealed the mother. That would be a huge mistake.

Well with Scrubs ending, maybe Chalke was going to become the mom. But now that Scrubs may be coming back they may switch her out.

they filmed a scene with the kids during season 2 that deals with the identity of the mother and the creators have stated publicly that they already know who the mother is. I just feel like the writers are smarter than that. Also, it seems like as he is telling this story to his kids, they would have know Stella is the mother as soon as he mentioned her. I mean they would know their mother's name. And they would know if they had a stepsister named Lucy.

or maybe that girl he is talking to is Lucy
love this show...Barney's 200 was awesome and Marshall and the graphs had me rolling!

Yeah it was worded as to say this led to him meeting the mother. If this hadn't happened he would not have met her, not that Stella is her.

From a Q&A with show creator Carter Bays at EW.COM:
quote:
Is Stella the mother?
CARTER BAYS: I won't say whether she's the mother or not, [but] we were definitely very careful in the wording of the narration. Obviously, we're not going to say, 'Okay, here she is! Show's over."
Was it an intentional fake-out?
BAYS: Nothing's a fake-out on this show. We established very early on that this is a very windy, twisty story, and the message of the show is there's a ridiculous series of events that has to happen before this guy meets the woman he marries... I will say this about the next two episodes: Everything will be made clear and it will move the ball forward.

Isn't the yellow umbrella significant to who the mother is? Did Ted keep it after the St. Patricks Day episode [if my memory serves me well....it usually doesn't but oh well]? I think that "the mother" left her umbrella at the bar. I can't remember if he kept it or not.

i also think robyn is pregnant irl because they usually show her sitting down and when she is up, she wears very loose clothing and you can notice on some scenes that she has a belly
eta: i bet the producers are pissed that both girls got knocked up at the same time

Maybe she taps him and says hey ted, that looks like my friend's umbrella. No way Stella is the Mother.
But it does look like things are shaping up, Barney seemed to be content with the 200 and maybe Robin is his future?

Remember the joke from a couple weeks ago...barney told Lily that dirty joke and he said...."and we never saw her again for 4 weeks" it was the writers joking way of saying she had her baby in real life so she will not be on the last 4 episodes.

do you know the answer to the joke he told her?

That's exactly what they did. And Robin's belly is far beyond trying to cover it up.
I really thought we were going to see the goat again [the season finale from last year] from when Ted turned 30 and then at the end he said "oh no, wait, that was my 31st bday....more to come on that." And alluded that the goat ate Robin's washcloth but she wasn't living with him at the time, but she is now. I was thinking that goat had a big part in it, maybe not.

I found an answer to it online...but it doesn't match what he said in the episode.

Well, they could be doing something like that movie Definitely Maybe. Where he told his daughter the story of how him and her mom met. He changed the names so she wouldn't know til the end which one was her mom.
The kid thing tends to make me think it isn't Sarah Chalke though. Those kids didn't look that far apart age wise, and I assume if he had kids with her there would be a gap of a few years.
