I'm not feeling the Jenkins pick.

I realize a lot of you more established posters will give me the harsh "newb" simply because you disagree. I disagree with the pick because our defensive backfield was addressed in free agency. A healthy Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer are solid covering the opponent's top two receivers. Blue Gay will be a solid nickelback. At CB, Jenkins covers the other team's 4th receiver. At safety, it is safe to state that Darren Sharper will be a starter. Roman Harper, when healthy, is a solid contributor. I don't see Jenkins cracking the lineup at safety as well. Unless depth in the defensive backfield was a huge issue, I do not understand the pick. If Loomis were so concerned with it, it could have been addressed in the 4th round with a feisty more battle tested defensive back out of the SEC (Ie. Derek Pegues, Captain Munnerlyn). Before you laugh, the Patriots make a living drafting solid contributers in later rounds. Cushing, who seemed to be in higher demand, would have been a better fit playing in Shanle's spot along side Vilma and Fujita. Oher would have helped our third and short deficiencies. With that being said, hindsight is 20/20 and I hope I am wrong.

Disagree not with your feeling, but with you thinking your opinion was important enough to start a new thread instead of joining in one of the other 50 threads on the subject.

For that you suck

I don't love the pick either. I just don't see how he makes the 2009 Saints much better.

If we'd taken Cushing, someone could have come on here and made the exact opposite argument. We have to let these guys go through the process and see how things shake out. That said, reasonable points reasonably made. BamaBlows could learn something from you.

Looks like the "pro" Jenkins list is getting some competition from the "REALITY" Saints fans.

Historically, we've had the worst corners and safeties in the NFL.

We need to change that.

Those other safeties you mentioned are solid players, but aren't Jenkins caliber, regardless of being SEC players.

I was high on Oher at the 14th pick. Jenkins was my #2. After we passed on Oher, a lot of other teams passed on Oher also. There must be something there to give NFL teams a reason to doubt his value as a high to mid #1. As for Cushing, I'm not sold.

I'm happy with Jenkins.

I don't hate the pick--I wasn't in love with anybody at 14, but it doesn't turn me on too much either. I thought all the DB signings were to enable to pick the best player available that wasn't a QB or DE. I really don't think Jenkins was the best player available. But oh well, we'll see.

In a division that has running backs Deangelo Williams, Michael Turner, and Derrick Ward, Cushing would have made more sense.
