Assuming that Wells and Moreno are off the board by the 14th pick. Which defensive player would you like to see the whodats take?

if we pick at 14 definitely Cushing...he's my number 1 at this point

I'd also prefer him exponentially to Moreno or Wells

I agree. Both LB prospects are physical freaks that would make an immediate impact. I dont think Jenkins would live up to 14th overall hype. And I dont think he would start this year.

of the 3 USC guys...I think Cushing because... Rey would make two boneheaded plays (out of position, etc) for every huge play. Matthews is definitely intriguing and has a pretty high ceiling possibly but the 1 year starter thing always scares me. I think Cushing is the safest pick.

I like Cushing if we stay at 14. I would still prefer to trade down and take Laurinitus. (I know I spelled that one wrong.)

yeah, I do to, that guy Cushing would be a natrural at the weakside for the Saints.

Cushing is bad and on roids
Matthews is on roids and a one year wonder
Rey plays MLB.

The obvious answer for smart people is Jenkins.

Also Moreno and Wells won't be off the board. Likely both will be there.

I would hate to see us pick him. Out of the three I'd go with Cushing at 14. I still think we'd be able to trade back and still be able to pick one of the three which would be ideal imo.

1) MLB
2) He is a slightly better version of Scott Shanle.*

I'd take Cushing, then Jenkins, then Matthews even IF Wells and Moreno were on the board. There are veteran running backs already available plus there will be power backs available in the 4th rd.

Our offense will be okay---we need more playmakers on defense.

IMO, Cushing is a riskier pick than Matthews. He's had problems staying healthy. Matthews worked his arse off to get into a starting position and then excelled once he got the chance. He clearly has a good work ethic and has the physical tools as well. I wouldn't mind taking Jenkins. Matthews, Jenkins, and Cushing would the order I'd go with, with Cushing a clear step behind the first two because of durability issues.

Cushing is just an absolute FREAK. he's a solid football player, but I dunno about this workout freak trend nowadays. look at vernon gholston last year. I think orakpo could turn out like that (and I'm a UT fan) Cushing might turn out to be a star, but he is definitely a risk

Cushin has been linked to roids. Matthews was a one year wonder but he does have heart. Jenkins would probably be converted to a safety. I say trade down, draft Beanie or Knowshon and with the second round pick we get in the trade, pick William Moore from Missouri.

Would love to trade back to pick #20 with Detroit and pick up their 3rd rounder or with Buffalo's pick #28 and their 2nd rounder. Pick #28 would be great for Sean Smith and then in the 2nd round grab BPA even if it is a RB or DE.

Trade down regardless of who is available. The Saints have so many needs and could use another pick either in the second or two in the third. Jenkins is not the answer. Neither is Cushing or Matthews.

My main thing with Wells is I think he is actually worthy of the 14th pick. I just don't value those LBs or Jenkins that high.

If an elite OT was there it would probably be the best pick.

I posted this on a Saints forum recently.
Trading down for Laurinaitis is the way to go in my book.

James Laurinaitis
6'-2" 244

40 yard dash 4.72
3-Cone Drill 6.81

Career tackles = 375
Career sacks = 13
Career Interceptions = 9

Clay Matthews
6'-3" 240

40 yard dash 4.58
3-Cone Drill 6.90

Career tackles = 96
Career Sacks =5.5
Career Interceptions = 0

Brian Cushing
6'-3" 243

40 yard dash 4.66
3-Cone Drill 6.84

Career tackles = 178
Career Sacks = 8.5
Career Interceptions = 1

When the measurables are this close why not take the more productive player?
Other guys may be a tad faster in shorts but I'll take the guy who is fast with the pads on.
