That's a little ridiculous, but I guess you got to draw the line somewhere.

I think if it went to court, a good first amendment / free speech attorney would prevail.

I mean, how can a university legally reprimand a student for an internet-based free speech issue that just so happens to upset the NCAA. The big issue the NCAA wants to prevent is constant hounding by boosters into the lives of these HS athletes. A frickin Facebook group isn't exactly knocking down the kid's door shoving propaganda at him.

This really is ridiculous.

Biggest issue I see is someone posing as someone influencing an athlete to attend a certain college, with the only intention of penalizing that college.

For instance, I try to persuade a recruit to go to Bama, even though I would want him to go to LSU. This would only bring trouble to Bama, making my days happier.

Seriously, this is a bit of a stretch to try to police the internet.

yeah i can understand the logic b/c i know if i was a recruit i wouldn't want to be facebook hassled by people who only have their best interest at hand..
but, there is no way to properly police it. this is gonna be interesting if they do try to enforce that

i dunno if this could possibly be a violation, but it's pathetic as frick regardless

Mike Scarborough Hey Joe, I see LSU's after another Detroit prospect. DE Williams Gholston from Southeastern. Is that Detroit to LSU pipeline that open? ;)

This is why LSU contacted the Rant to ask that they stop permitting direct exchanges with recruits like occurred with Calhoun last year.

Been sayin.

FYI:

The 1st Amendment only prohibits the Federal government from abridging free speech. Private organizations have no such restraints. If one does not like their organization's policies, one is free to quit or work to change the policy.
