Louisiana strawberries, CRAWFISH, fresh vegetables of any type, good fish and I could go on and on. Everybody have an extra portion for me. Boy, do I miss Louisiana in the Spring and Summer. Had to stop reading here, because it makes me extremely homesick.

The Pacific Northwest is served by several major airlines! Maybe its time to venture south for a Warming Up from the bitter winter up there. Hot Crawfish, Cold Beer, and Fresh Strawberries for dessert! Cant go wrong!

I think you should check out the produce section of your grocery store.

It may get me flamed on this board, but there is nothing wrong with the California strawberries if that's all you have access to.

good fish
You're in the Pacific NW and can't get good fish? That just seems wrong.

CRAWFISH
Plenty of places that will ship this to you. Not sure how it compares to fresh, but if you're that home sick you should give it a try.

I rather have a hot, sunny June day than snow in April. Would take you up on those veggies though!!!

Yea, I know, but it is expensive to fly home more than 2 times a year. Was home for Christmas and it was OK. I actually was in Houston with the other side of the family. Don't know what is going to happen this summer since Thunder on the Gulf has been cancelled.

Fresh vegetable and fruit are imported. Not a good quality for the price you pay. Example - bought a seedless watermelon last week that was imported from Mexico. It has no taste, but is a very pretty red color.
California strawberries are okay, but again to expensive for the quality. They are usually squished, bruised, and look like they have been through it and back again.
Fish. Yea, if you like salmon and even that is high in price. There are other types of Pacific fish, but it is usually frozen. Try making a lovely fish dish with frozen. It loses some of its jois de vive. I would like grouper, red fish, trout, etc.
Shipping is very expensive. Priced 5 pounds of frozen crawfish tails through a Louisiana farm and it was over $100.00 to get it!!!! You maybe able to do that, but not everyone can right now.
Thanks for your thoughts though. I miss the ATL too. Live there for several years.

well, i was planning on staying in Houston for Easter weekend...but now, I'm rethinking it.
La strawberries are the freaking best. I'm sick of the Mexican or Californian Driscol crap we get here.

That's part of the reason I joined this Community Supported Agriculture program, Eating with the Seasons. Each week I get an order delivered to my work. Unlike other CSA's I get to choose what I want with this one . Its all organic AND all LOCAL. Both of these have a great environmental impact that I think is a positive. The strawberries are soo good and the beefsteak tomatoes are the best I have ever had!!
You may want to check out this Local Harvest to see if there is a CSA near you. I have never used this website, but it seems like it has good info!

I am jealous of the foods you have up there.
You live in a great place with great seafood.
