Hey Spider,
Please add me to the list. I know I haven't posted much, but the first post I made should speak for itself. I love LSU and everything it stands for. It is hard to stomach toxic, negative people on a daily basis.
A win is still a win. Plus we only got penalized three times for 35 yards. Last season there was laundry all over the place.

Prayers are sent to Haley, you and the rest of your family and friends.
I understand your love for Haley. I also have no children and my 5 nieces and 1 nephew occupy my mind more than anything else. Are they safe, happy, doing well in school etc. I really miss them.
Give Haley an extra hug for me.

LSU-Washington game time
Posted by far from home tiger on 4/23/09 at 1:39 pm
As of 11:30a.m.Pacific time there is still no time set for the game.
This is the link to UW athletic website - www.gohuskies.com
LINK
On March 11, I posted information for the game with some other information - Ticket info for the Washington game.
LINK
Remember to check the weather for the game, because it can change very quickly. I had snow at my condo 2 weeks ago. It has been in the 30's at night and the low 50's during the day this week and it is April 23.
The team hotel is the Hyatt in Bellevue, WA.
Sorry for the repeated information, but more people seem to be interested in the game time and ticket prices. I usually check 1-2 times during the week for the game time and would be more than happy to let everyone know when it is finally decided.

New Store Discovery - Oil and Vinegar
Posted by far from home tiger on 4/20/09 at 3:39 pm
I discovered this little shop in the mall I go to occasionally. This company was started in the Netherlands in 1999 and came to the USA in 2004. There are only 5 stores in the USA right now. They are located in Missoula, Montana, Skokie, Illinois, Charlottesville, Virginia, The Woodlands, Texas and the one I found in Bellevue, Washington. There is also a web site.
You are able to sample the different types of oils, vinegars, and other products they sell in the store. There was a sampling table and the store associates show you different combinations. I had a chance to taste 8-10 different combinations that were very good. They decant the oil and vinegar into different size containers for you. It is a nice store and it was fun to taste the product before buying. I really enjoyed my time in the store and hope ya'll will take a few minutes to go to the web site or store (if you live or have one close.)

re: Restaurants in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores
Posted by far from home tiger on 4/17/09 at 9:32 pm to Fratagonia
Been going to Orange Beach for years and these recommendations are in not particular order:
-Papa Rocco's - Great pizza and baked oysters.
Price Buster pizza, Oysters
Rockyfeller are our favorites,
but try all the oyster specialties.
-Cosmos- Went there for the first time last year
and it was very good.
-LuLu's - Pretty good, but you have to catch it
when it is not busy. If you go when it
is the food is just mediocre.
-King Neptune's - A very small place, but the food
is very good.
-Tacky Jack's Orange Beach - Good for breakfast.
-Tin Top Resturant in Bon Secour - If there is live
entertainment it is very noisy.
Good food.
-Franco's Italian - Good food and the Cesear salad
and dressing is one of the best
I have had.
-Gulf Shores Steamer - Food is good and it is
either steamed or grilled;
nothing fried.
-Original Oyster House - Food is good, but
sometimes service is slow.
-Hope's Cheesecakes - Best cheesecake I have ever
had. Good selection of
flavors and should be able to
get a sampler of the flavors
you would like to try.
Sorry this is so long, but I figured more information is better than just going to a bad place.
Have fun!!! Love it there, myself.

Posted by far from home tiger on 4/7/09 at 3:08 pm to TigerinATL
Fresh vegetable and fruit are imported. Not a good quality for the price you pay. Example - bought a seedless watermelon last week that was imported from Mexico. It has no taste, but is a very pretty red color.
California strawberries are okay, but again to expensive for the quality. They are usually squished, bruised, and look like they have been through it and back again.
Fish. Yea, if you like salmon and even that is high in price. There are other types of Pacific fish, but it is usually frozen. Try making a lovely fish dish with frozen. It loses some of its jois de vive. I would like grouper, red fish, trout, etc.
Shipping is very expensive. Priced 5 pounds of frozen crawfish tails through a Louisiana farm and it was over $100.00 to get it!!!! You maybe able to do that, but not everyone can right now.
Thanks for your thoughts though. I miss the ATL too. Live there for several years.

Yea, I know, but it is expensive to fly home more than 2 times a year. Was home for Christmas and it was OK. I actually was in Houston with the other side of the family. Don't know what is going to happen this summer since Thunder on the Gulf has been cancelled.

Louisiana strawberries, CRAWFISH, fresh vegetables of any type, good fish and I could go on and on. Everybody have an extra portion for me. Boy, do I miss Louisiana in the Spring and Summer. Had to stop reading here, because it makes me extremely homesick.

re: Pork tenderloins
Posted by far from home tiger on 3/17/09 at 11:50 am to Powerman
I use the following with no particular measurements, usually just eye the portions:
A-1 Steak Sauce - This may sound strange, but it does help tenderize the tenderloin.
Lea and Perrins Worchester or the White (which is called Marinade for Chicken) which ever I have in the house.
Balsamic Vinegar (sometimes, depends on my mood)
Rosemary
Sage
Thyme
Basil
Garlic
Bay leaf
I mix all this together and place the tenderloin in a bowl and pour this over it. Sometimes it stays in the bowl and in the refrigerator all day or just a few hours. I will preheat the oven to about 350 degrees and put in the tenderloin. Sometimes I cover it with foil.
Enjoy your tenderloin!!

Ticket info for the Washington game
Posted by far from home tiger on 3/11/09 at 8:24 pm
Just went to the UW website and found the information on ticket sales.
Single game tickets go on sale July 27 at 8:30AM Pacific time. Remember that your time will be 2 or 3 hours ahead depending on Central or Eastern time zones.
Reserved tickets are $70 and East End Bleachers are $35. Just a note on East End Bleachers - these seats are on the Lake Washington side of the stadium and it maybe windy and colder depending on the weather in September. It maybe turning cooler, but who knows.... it is March and it snowed here for 3 days!!!!
Tickets can be purchased online or by telephone. Go to www.gohuskies.com and click on the ticket button for the information. The online link and the telephone number are avaliable on the ticket page.
For Husky Stadium seating go to the Athletic Dept. button and click on Facilities. There are links for the different venues there. There are also links for driving directions at the top left of the venue site.
Hope this helps someone out. Sorry, I did not know how to link the ticket information up here.

re: Living in Bama...

I am sickened by the way your son was treated at school. No one should have to defend their apperance, school affliations, etc. It is reprehensiable how people will pick someone who is a little different in one way or another to bully and not be disciplined for it.
Tigerfan, I speak from experience. I am a person of small stature and was picked on all through high school (at that time I weighed about 80-90 lbs). I was called all sort of names, put into situations that were diffucult to get out of, but the thing that bothered me the most was that others would make fun of my features. I had not "grown into" my big blue eyes or full lips. I moved through school without getting into any physical altercations, but those days were not the easiest to go through. I never told my parents and would take everything on the chin and move on. I made it into adulthood with some scars, but I know that I did what I had to and I am a well adjusted person. Those years made me stronger, appreciate what was given to me, and more sensitive to what effects others. Fortunately, I have had the last laugh.... I have the blue eyes and full lips that most people are going to the cosmetic surgeon for these days.
I don't know if this will help your son's situation, but I think he has handled more than he is willing to disclose to you and this latest situation was just the one that "pushed his last button." He seems to be a strong, intelligent young man and someone I would be proud to call my friend. Let him wear his LSU clothing and other things to school. If he doesn't he will not be true to himself, which is the most important thing.
