Starting a residency at Integris Baptist Hospital in July 2010, moving from New Orleans. Was wondering if anyone lives around OK City and could relay some info such as best area to live (have a wife and 1st kid in the oven), areas to steer clear of, and of course places to watch games with fellow Tigers. Thanks

Edmond is your best option if being north of town isnt inconvenient. Moore/Norman is nice if south is better and you can stomach a heavy dose of Sooners.

Edmond is a great town. Spent 6 years of my childhood there. I highly recommend it.

Indeed, Edmond is the place to be (if you've got the money). The people there tend to be a bit pretentious if you ask me. Some act like their shite don't stink but it really is a wonderful place.
As far as OKC goes, I'd stick to the North Side. The South side tends to be a little more ghetto but thats your call.
The Moore area, as recommended before, is fantastic. It is fairly close to Norman though, so I'd stay the hell away. With that in mind, welcome to Hades. You'll never meet a more narrow minded, jaded, irrational bunch of fans. The sooner nation is indeed a ridiculous one.
Good luck in okie land.

thanks for the insight. the hospital is in NW corner so i think edmond might be my best bet. also, i have already bought a very large, obnoxious LSU flag. it will be displayed before anything gets moved indoors.

Although not a LSU alum, they are my 2nd team and I currently live in OKC having moved here almost a year ago.
Edmond is fine, but I would recommend two areas just north of the city center.
Crown Heights: it's an historic old neighborhood that is well maintain and very safe. It has some houses that are close to a $1 million in value and others that are smaller and great for young couples/families that you can get for closer to $200,000. I live here and it's an awesome area.
Edgemer Heights: Very similiar to Crown Heights in proximity and demo. Just a little less expensive but still some really great, neat old homes that are perfect for young couples and families.
Both are close to two great parks. You could bike into downtown. And are close to all the cool bars and resturants on Western Avenue. This is a great area with lots to do.
Both areas are close to 235 and 44-I mean real close. And both can get you to Bricktown, downtown, 63rd street area in 5 minutes or less. And both can get you up to the bars and resturants and activities at Lake Hefner (OKC's Lake) in less than ten minutes.
It's a great town (never thought I'd say it) and a great college sports town.

Edmond - nice area north of OKC, good schools, more expensive than Moore but also nicer than Moore
Nichols Hills - too pricey (for me) but huge older homes (googleearth the area around 63rd & Western & NW of there, you'll see what I mean)
X Factor is correct about Edgemere & Crown Heights, nice old areas close to the action
Integris Baptist is NW Expressway/Hefner Pkwy area...older smaller homes around there, some good neighborhoods sprinkled among the not-so-good ones.
also...OKC LSUAA chapter link is here

Off the wall question, what did you make on your mcat?
Posted on 3/24/09 at 6:06 pm to DieSmilen
I worked a few projects up there and met some nice folks. The ones I know live in Edmond and its very nice. I don't envy you having to move to OKC but congrats to you & yours.

I live north of Tulsa, about 2 hour drive to edmond. My in-laws live in Edmond and love it. I always wear my purple and gold proud. The sooner fans love my national championship shirts. Especially the one their helmet is on.

Cancel any plans to move to Okla-mobile-Homa! The people are religious Protestant puritans who drink watered-down 3 point beer and there are fall down drunk Indians all over the place. Also, wearing LSU clothing anywhere in Oklahoma will guarantee that you will come in contact with groups of bowlegged a-holes wanting to fight you over the Sugar Bowl and reminding you how close they were to coming back on us.
Funny thing is, these inbred Okies think WE are the backward ones! They make Arkies look like royalty. Your life will be hell and the weather will suck all year long in OK.

Congrats on matching. What specialty?
My advice: Enjoy life the next 3 months. Take a long vacation. July 1 everything changes.

Good luck. I have been to the Norman - Okie City twice. The first time we tried to go see a minor league baseball team when we were done for the day and there was a tornado in the area. The second time was a few months after that really bad tornado. there was a strip of land about 300 yards to a quarter mile of absolutely nothing.

Sounds like another fanbase that follows a team with Red and White colors.........

The OU fans will hate you because of the 2003 NC, and the OSU fans will hate you because of Les Miles leaving their shitty program.

Section 8 has spread the ghetto around. Stay away from Penn. & Hefner area on the North side. Edmond is good, Yukon and Piedmont are also possibilities.

Don't forget how fat and toothless all the Okie women are. Also, beware of all the backward meth addicts and tweakers floating around out there.
