See attached article from The Advocate. Linebacker changes sound alot like Lou Tepper's awful failure know as the "drop linebacker". Please convince me I am wrong.

Doc, don't be stupid on this too. All schemes drop LBs into zone coverage sometimes. A lot even drop DEs too. And one of Tepper's problems was that he dropped big, slow, white LBs.

Chavis is proven. He was one of the top DC's in the sec the last 10 years.

"Doc, don't be stupid on this too. All schemes drop LBs into zone coverage SOMETIMES."

My concern is that your linebacker is alwaysyour nickle back>. Do we have an athlete who can play both well. If not the defense will either suffer at linebacker or nickleback.

Big Mac, I think all schemes have some merit or people would not run them....having said that I believe that its all about the talent, speed, intellegence of those athletes in the scheme that primarily make any one particular scheme work. ie. not many schools could run Florida's offensive scheme with success because they can't recruit the type of athlete Florida can.

3 LBs against a spread could work if we had fast/athletic LBs...we don't really

I don't need to convince you.........look at the product.........unless John Chavis has a magic fricking wand that turns avg LB's into monster LB's how in the hell did his "drop linebacker" D rank in the top 5 for 15 freaking years?

Yeah lets throw out the most RECENT sucess to prove a point or forget about the other 15 years.......the man has coached for 20 years.

If he gives LSU another 20 like UT got, we'll have made one of the best hires ever.

Terrance O'Bryant wasn't big, he wasn't white, and he wasn't slow.

i'm just saying it hasn't bee "top 5 for the past 15 years" and to suggest it has is an outright lie

and since this is about LBs, material at LB is a worry to me in the immediate future
