In my endless search of NW LA for Abita Strawberry I gave up and bought ABita Red Ale...says its only made till may and I was wondering what the verdict is on it from my friends here. Thanks.
All stores that carry Abita should have strawberry next week per the vendor up here!!

I don't care for it...
I like Strawberry and Turbodog...Amber is okay...the Mardi Gras Bock is okay...
I am not as big of an Abita fan as most down here.

Thanks TA...I like your posts by the way. I enjoy purple haze...The mardi Gras has been my fav so far. Amber is good and I didn't like andygator or AbbeyAle.

i've tried the red ale once; i thought it was ok but not necessarily great. Amber is my favorite. I like the Strawberry but i can only drink one in a sitting before switching to something else.
I tried the Mardi Gras back in January for the first time. I thought it was pretty good; one of the better of the seasonal. Andygator is good but not a beer that i would drink more than one at a sitting.
the restoration ale was pretty good as well, but i don't know if they still do that one.

I haven't tried the ale yet, but I forgot...Andygator on draft is awesome...it has made for some great nights for me.
THe strawberry was damn strong last year. I hope you enjoy it.
Is it difficult to get different Abitas in NWLA? I would think that everywhere would have them.

The only one I have ever had problems getting my hands on is the Strawberry. But I have been assured multiple times that I will be the first one called when they get it in(On the condition I stop calling everyday). Have you had the restoration yet?? The guy was trying to unload the last two sixers they had on me today. I told him I was too let down about the Strawberry.

Yes...I am sorry I forgot about that one...I reaallly liked it when it came out...I suspect they changed the recipe though because it's still good, but not as good.
They do Abita dinners at many restaurants down here...find an excuse to come down to the city for French Quarter Fest or something and load up on the Strawberry for cheap at Dorignac's.

I am not much of a beer drinking b/c I hate the bitter taste of traditional beers like Miller and Budwiser. Any of the Abita flavors that were previously mentioned has that bitter taste to them?

i tried the Lazy Magnolia pecan recently; i thought it was ok but i wasn't blown away. i wouldn't go out of my way to find it but i would drink one is offered. i haven't tried the Abita Pecan, so i have no point of reference to compare. the only specialty or seasonal Abita we get up here has been the Strawberry last summer. other than than, we just get the standards (amber, turbo dog, golden, and purple haze).

I am a big fan of the Red Ale, drinking some now.

Its not that great by itself but when compared to Abita's it is good.

They make wine coolers for a reason. How in the hell can anyone say what you'll like? Spend the 8 bucks and buy a six pack to try it, sheesh.

Did I ask somebody to tell me what I would like jackass??? I just asked if the previously mentioned Abita flavors was bitter like other traditional beers. It was a simple question and it only required a simple answer.

Think I'll create my own 6pk with the abita and lazy magnolia and do a side by side comparison. Thanks for the answers everyone.

quote:Different beers will vary in taste greatly from person to person. You can get something of a decent idea based upon the different styles, though. B-M-C are all "light American lagers", I believe, and none of the Abita beers that have been talked about in this thread are of that style. Original Dixie is an American lager, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone unless they were looking for that particular kind of beer.
