My favorite little-known Duvall performance is as the heavy in an otherwise routine Clint Eastwood western called Joe Kidd. This is one of my favorite villains ever in a western. Duvall plays a superficially well-mannered cattle baron, but every line of dialogue he delivers is dripping with contempt, hostility and intimidation.
