Gardeners

Anyone put their tomato or pepper plants down yet? I am thinking once we shake this cold front it's time to get busy. Spent last weekend preparing my plot and shopping around for plants.
I think my soil is probably completely neutral at this point and I have some soil conditioner to put down once I plant. I am getting an itchy green thumb.
How's everyone's garden looking?

I'm going to plant in pots next week. If another cold front comes through I'll just move the pots into the garage. I'm going with Big Boys.

I have several old line tomatos called Gulf States. They'll go in the ground over the next four weekends. That spreads out my crop.

I gave up the garden but really miss it; thinking of using pots. Does this concept work well and, if so, what size/type do you use?
Input appreciated!!!

My experience is they don't really grow till it gets warm and all you accomplish by planting early is stressing and watching your plants try to recover from cold burn. I don't plant till right before Easter or the pecans show leaves. You may turn a week or two early but to me it's not worth the stress. I always ask for early, then mid and late summer producers. That way I have them all summer. I put in 16 plants typically.
I pod stripped my basil plants last fall and I have a fat old quart bag full of basil seeds and chafe. I can never have too much basil.

Tomatos plants sitting on my kitchen table as we speak...Ready to go...
I was always told that temps under 45 degrees will severly stunt bellpepper plants... I wait on them.

That was my mistake last summer. It was my first try at planting in pots and I used 5 gallon tubs. You really need 10 gallon for tomatoes that are going to grow 5 feet high like mine did. The roots were stunted and didn't produce the numbers or size I wanted.
